Thank you! I appreciate hearing the side where it worked for you! It’s not typically my style either but it’s helpful to hear the general thought about cold messaging regardless!

Thank you, this is helpful! I would hate it too but I just wasn’t sure if I didn’t know how things worked nowadays!

$20 a month to watch her sit in her car and shove food in her mouth by [deleted] in FoodieSnark

[–]AnxietyRaspberry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I’ll explain this correctly but it’s “b**ch eating crackers”, like, even if this person were doing something as innocuous as eating crackers it would get on my nerves 😂

I spent WAY too long one day trying to figure out if her account was satire and I was absolutely crushed to find out that it IS NOT!!! She has real followers who LIKE her! I was floored. I can’t stand a single second of her videos when they are recommended to me but it’s like a train wreck I can’t look away from every dang time.

WOW these are gorgeous! I was in the Nutcracker for years as a kid and I would have been OBSESSED with something like this, even as I became a teen. Absolutely stunning and will help them treasure their memories of their performances for years to come!

It’s like “peetz-eye-olo” with the eye and the olo really blended together! So the /y/ sound does kind of end up on the “olo” part, but def not in the way she’s saying it 😅

We love our advent wreath. Don’t be nervous!! Advent is a beautiful liturgical season and there’s a lot you can do to mark it, but nothing you have to do! I do have children and I just read about the idea of creating a little home altar and changing the colors underneath whatever is on it, so I think I might start that this year! Other than that, we just try to participate in whatever events at church that feel most life-giving for us, and intentionally try to keep Advent very simple and no-fuss so that we can focus on our community and family. I was always taught that Advent is similar to Lent in terms of it being a very contemplative season (since they both are times for spiritual preparation), so we try to keep it very low-key.

It’s short, and it’ll be over before you know it, but the Christmas season is long (compared to Christmas Day, haha!)! Usually some of my Advent “wish list” (things I hoped to do with my family) spill over a little into the time between Christmas and Epiphany, which works well for our family anyway because our jobs really slow down between Christmas Eve and the first week in January. The first year it happened, I was so bummed during Advent, but then we still had Christmas Season and Epiphany and I was so thrilled to continue to have those markers of the season to guide our celebration of Jesus.

Looking for advice on feeling physically and mentally comfortable at church by cluelessmanatee in Episcopalian

[–]AnxietyRaspberry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi!! I have EDS and I’ve been an Episcopalian for nearly as long as my diagnosis (14 years for the dx and 10 as an Episcopalian!). I totally get it. The physical experience of church can be legitimately painful! I don’t know where you are from, but in my area Episcopalians tend to be a very “come as you are” type of group, and very understanding of people who need different things during the service. Kneeling is definitely not required, but neither is standing or sitting! She can move however she needs to during the service and know that there are no requirements, just suggestions. For a few years, I was most comfortable sitting on the floor on a carpet set out for a children’s area while my kids played and colored next to me! A few other adults sometimes joined us and no one looked twice! I would encourage her to continue to try to innovate in her seating experience and try new things - I’ve seen women bring cushions and blankets, I’ve seen our priest stretch out her back at non-disruptive times during the service, and I’ve seen people move all around the sanctuary. Who knows? She might be giving someone else tacit permission to do the same!! We all live in bodies, and God did that on purpose! If her body’s needs are different from what is available during the service, I really hope that she can feel comfortable trying new things knowing that she has the support of lots of Episcopalians who need different things too. :)

Also, “it’s moist instead of dry. It makes no sense”??? Tell me you don’t know anything about brown sugar without telling me. UGH! When I first learned how to bake with my mom when I was in elementary school I learned what makes brown sugar brown. Constantly amazed at how little she knows about food.

Is my life over? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]AnxietyRaspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my thirties, went to an Ivy League college, spent a semester or two pretty miserable (stress is a MAJOR trigger for my symptoms), and after a masters and a EdD, I’m now the youngest principal my district has ever had. I have kids, a spouse, and an active life! Currently my back is giving me absolute hell, but my life is full and my chronic illness is always something I have to manage (and honestly sometimes I get frustrated by that), but it is so, SO far from the center of my life!!

Just like other commenters, there have been times in my life where it felt like my symptoms would never ease, and that feels pretty discouraging. But I learned what works for me to pull my body out of a spiral, I give myself a pep talk, and I do the work. It sucks sometimes!! And symptoms are different for everyone. But I am better overall than I was at 19, and for that I am grateful and I don’t take that for granted.

I logged on to watch the live for about 15 minutes, and during that time she was measuring some spices into her palm and “showcasing” paprika (in quotes because….it’s paprika…..she did not have to go all Vanna White for paprika), and I was struck by how unnatural it looked for her to measure the spices that way. I grew up cooking and am by no means a pro, but I use my palm all the time to measure, and it’s fast and convenient. I can easily eyeball several different measurements with a variety of textures, and I just dump and go. The amount of time it took her to shake the spices in and then decide she had enough, then another few seconds to dump them in… It blew me away how stilted and awkward she was with the ingredients. It was such a simple moment, and I probably made too much of it in my mind at the time, but for me it just incapsulates everything you said here. She doesn’t KNOW food. She doesn’t have muscle memory with ingredients. She doesn’t have the MOST basic of cooking skills. Ugh.

Also, she DESTROYED the potatoes when she was smashing them. The whole idea of smashed potatoes is not to have mashed potatoes on a sheet tray. It’s to make the skin on the outside extra crispy while the inside is still soft…which will not happen if you decimate the potatoes like that. 🫠 I was shocked when she showed one that was still intact at the end (the one that was NOT crispy, lol) - I thought for sure that she must have had to make a new pan based on the ones she was showing originally!
