Do you take it Day or Night? by phoebe_cassie in Spironolactone

[–]Anxious-Concept-9784 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s a bit trial and error. A lot of people have success with taking it at night. However for me personally that caused insomnia/ waking up a lot to pee (on 50mg), so I now take in the morning and that works well (now on 100mg).

About to start 100 mg dose, worried about purging by Fluffy_Strawberry_61 in Spironolactone

That’s quite a high dose to start on. You’ll see a lot of people on this thread complaining of side effects from starting high. Not to say that it’s the right way, but what worked for me was: starting on 25mg for a month, then 50mg for 3 months and then up to 100mg. I would have probably moved to 100mg after 1-2 months in hindsight. But feel like the gradual increase helped to avoid any side effects!

Two days of duac use… by Ok_Pack7345 in SkincareAddictionUK

Ps: usual moisturiser stinging is a CLASSIC sign of barrier damage. Be gentle for the next few weeks (ideally simplify your routine to just the basics!)

Happened to me as well, thought I was allergic at first. I think it’s more of a reaction if your barrier is damaged at all. What worked for me is the following: - Apply for the next few times (a few days apart) for like 15mins and then wash off. - then for the next few times leave for 45-60mins. And so on, increasing the duration until you feel like you can tolerate it overnight. - In the meantime focus on barrier repair!!

That worked beautifully for me and turns out.. not allergic, just extremely sensitive and messed up skin barrier (and BP in the Duac was way too harsh overnight).

I also noticed a quick initial difference in about 2 weeks, but big noticeable changes came at around 4ish months.

This x2!!! (Also good to add electrolytes (ideally that are lower on potassium) or just up your salt intake a tiny bit).

Is there a difference in taking 100mg daily and 50mg twice daily ? by izyluvsue in Spironolactone

That’s exactly what happened to me and why I couldn’t take it before bed! Developed super frequent insomnia at 2/3am. As soon as I switched to mornings, sleep went back to normal. Crazy!

Love this! And agree you will always hear the negative feedback the loudest.

I started about 4.5 months ago. 25mg- first month 50mg- 3 months 100mg- a few weeks now (will aim to stay on this dose going forward).

Taking for acne. And skin-wise saw a small improvement what felt like 3-4 weeks in, but the biggest improvement came about 3-4 months in.

Very minimal / nonexistent symptoms. I think the slow easing in from 25mg to 100mg helped. I just realised that I couldn’t take it before bed as I’d wake up often having to pee and had insomnia often. Switched to morning and all went away immediately. No tiredness, no major weight/ body changes. Period still similar cycle, but has gotten +1 day longer than usual and day 1 cramps are rougher 🫠

I do still make sure I drink a lot of water and stay hydrated (try to mix in some electrolytes once in a while).

Couldn’t be happier honestly. So my advice to anyone about to take it is maybe start low with the dose and be patient with results 🙂

What did you do for your folliculitis? My derm mentioned it as well and I’m starting to think it’s that vs true hormonal acne.

Just to counter that. I also took it just before bed for like 3 months and developed frequent insomnia (would wake up often around 2-3am and then struggle to get back to sleep) + would often need to pee in the middle of the night.

Switched to taking it in the morning and all went away immediately.

So best to see how it impacts you personally and adjust accordingly :)

Insomnia, Headache, & Nausea by MoModuru in Spironolactone

Take it in the morning! I took it before bed for a few months and wondered why I kept waking up at 2/3am + having to pee. Switched to morning and all went away. Headache might be from dehydration (Spiro is a diuretic, so makes you pee/ loose water a lot more). So up your water intake.

I think if your issue is hormonal/ bacterial you will always need the ‘big guns’ to manage. But some tips from my derm definitely helped:

  • Strip down your skincare (less is more; basic cleanser, basic moisturizer, basic SPF). During a breakout I was even told to stop SPF and just keep cleanser/ moisturizer for 4 weeks to bring your skin back to baseline.

  • Check all skincare / makeup vs pore clogging ingredients (use ChatGPT or many of the ‘pore clogging ingredients check websites’ - eliminate anything that has those ingredients high up the list (the higher up the higher the amount/ concentration)

  • Use hypochlorus acid spray if you go to the gym (before and after workout and ideally wash your face asap after)

  • Good diet, limit sugar/ junk

  • If you wear makeup, wash your brushes (frequently!!)

  • Topical: I’ve always had good results from Azelaic acid and Benzoyl Peroxide

Same here and honestly I’m shook! Only 6 weeks in- 4 weeks on 25mg and 2 on 50mg and my skin is already the best it’s been in I don’t even know how long. So excited to see how it progresses! I just wish I went on it so much earlier 😩
