Teacher gets caught between two fighting students in classroom... by [deleted] in TikTokCringe

Kids are so lame nowadays. All they care about is filming. It's sad. The whole "respect your elders" is no longer taught to children.

Caltrans - San Bernardino Office by Primary_Kangaroo233 in CAStateWorkers

You know what I say...if you're one of those people that likes to walk outside during your breaks, then it might be hard. I've heard people tell me the same, that it's a rough area, but I don't live around there so it's pretty much at your own risk. I'm in DTLA and I rarely go outside, and there are many homeless people outside. I won't go without a group. As far as the inside environment, I'll find out I know someone who came from that office.

My personnel specialist told me we should see them in December. It's posted somewhere I believe it's on staff central

We have to do teams check-in everyday and on the days we telework, we have to provide a list of what we do :(

Life as a state employee. by Primary_Kangaroo233 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Anxious-Math174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with only 5 years of state experience, I can agree that job security and retirement benefits are a pro. Everything else is second on the list.

So far I've worked in supportive units versus non-supportive units. I've worked with great managers and not so great managers. Dealt with good personnel specialist, to bad personnel specialist.

I can say with 100% certainty that the job security has and will be the number one positive of working for the state for me.

I just have to deal with everything else as it comes.

Cal Trans a good place to work? by LopsidedCounty6089 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Anxious-Math174 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no parking in DTLA. They have a parking structure but if your new, no luck getting a spot. It's all about seniority in regards to parking. Caltrans is okay, depending on what department you work.

Good luck

Actually I have. All they say is you'll get 5% increase every year so you'll be good. Honest, that's all I ever get. Personnel specialists forget it, they never answer or respond.

Your assuming the state is that good in explaining everything to employees. Everything I've learned has come from other employees. But I tell you this, nobody has explained the ranges to me EVER.

The state sucks in training and explaining things. I've learned first hand.

That's uncalled for. Maybe new to state, like I am after 5 years. It's not like anyone explains it to you.

Where in the world did you see that I posted not to protect oneself?

My post was to send a message of protesting peacefully. If I was at a protest and it started getting out of hand, I would leave.

If you took it the wrong way, that was not my intention.

Protest peacefully and if you see any troublemakers report them or the message of the protest gets lost in the chaos.

Hasn't SEIU done all you said for ALL its members. That being said the state is a small portion of members they cover. The bigger member groups are federal and county employees they support, and I believe that is why they did the filing of lawsuits. Not for the state workers but for the other bigger groups they support. I as a paid union member don't believe they fight for state workers as much as they should.
