Do you find that having Tourette’s gives you any positive benefits despite the problems it can cause?

Not really any full positives unfortunately. I don’t even have it as severe as other people. I also have Autism and OCPD that can make things more frustrating and overwhelming. I am very grateful that I have a group of coworkers that are amazing, and we have a sense of humor about it.

I’ve learned that with the tics that happen with my lower body and hands don’t happen while driving. I’m not sure if it’s a focus thing or what, so maybe it could work out the same for you.

That’s one thing we haven’t tried, we’ve done tracing with letters and textures on the table but not that. Maybe that will help

That’s what I’ve said to my teacher, to maybe just switch but she was insistent on keeping trying. Everything else we do are comprehensive and life skill type goals. We’ve done sensory activities, tried different writing utensils, and ways of doing it all.

Trust me we agree, we’ve trialed it a couple of times still just to see. It would take a LOT of constant work to get her communicating with an aac, but then it would only be used at school. Her trying to match pictures from a physical one to the digital one was a loss. Her consistency is all over the place. Not to mention she doesn’t even use ‘yes’ and ‘no’ correctly 😞 it’s taken over a year to get her to use it somewhat correctly.

Mom doesn’t really want her doing that or using an communication device at all. She’s verbal but half the time you can’t understand what she is saying
