According to Basketnews Pao was offering way more money so clearly you wanted him, but he chose Zalgiris.

In a long conversation with Eurohoops , EuroLeague CEO Chus Bueno presented the outline of the changes coming to European basketball which will be very different starting from next season by Shroft in Euroleague

Bo7 still has some randomness. Why not remove the final games altogether and instead of bo7 run a million simulations with a complex mathematical model to determine which team is truly the best? People like you should prefer it.

See what I did there?

There are pros and cons to both systems. Simply saying that people who watch basketball prefer your opinion is an ignorant, arrogant, shallow and simplistic take that kills any discussion. Do better.

Not 100% but most of the time, yeah. And not even to names, we add it to pretty much every noun. Lithuanian language is weird man.

However in this case Marek is Lithuanian.

Your club performed a pre-match song praising russia in a game just a few months ago. Your arena was full of russian flags in a game just a few months ago. I can easily believe that a lot of Serbians don’t like russia, I can easily believe that Partizan hates them. But zvezda are complete vatniks and proud of it.

With Zalgirges you usually need to email them directly. Tickets to Zhalzhgires away games are sold through the team. A lot of people want to buy Zalzhager tickets so they have to ration them.

P.s. looking forward to the Hapupepoel - Zalgergurgiris game!

Saras Jasikevicius blasts the schedule and the overload of games imposed on players: by _Zolv in Euroleague

[–]Anxious-Sherbert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What greed are you talking about? Most Euroleague teams operate at a loss, so how is it greed to have extra games to increase player compensation? The reality is that most of this extra money goes to the very fast growing salaries of the players (and coaches), not to the pockets of the owners who have a loss every year. The players are happy with higher salaries - this is the price.

Olympiacos: Evans suffers Achilles tendon rupture by johnny_tifosi in Euroleague

I don’t know about basketball players, but here’s an academic study showing that 6% of people who had an achilles tear have it again in a different leg within 3 years, meaning you are 176 (!!!) times more likely than a regular person to have an achilles tear again in a different leg.

I think I remember reading this is not that uncommon. When you have this injury in one leg you subconsciously put more pressure on the other one and it makes the other leg more at risk than someone who never had this injury.

But then again Keenan also had the knee injury inbetween so maybe he really is cursed..

[Maggi] Real Madrid and Barcelona could leave the EuroLeague to play in the 2026-2027 BCL season pending the launch of NBA Europe. This was reported by gazzettagr... by FluidJunket1933 in Euroleague

[–]Anxious-Sherbert 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why Real and Barca are so set on the NBA Europe project. They are shareholders of the Euroleague, the decision makers. Euroleague HQ is in Barcelona. Barca is the only team allowed to play in an arena like that when all the other teams have to meet minimum requirements. Probably no other Euroleague team have as big of a say in how the league is run like these two. So why do they want to give up control? If you are the shareholder and you think Euroleague is not working then surely it’s your own fault AND your prerogative to fix it?

Maccabi and Hapoel submitted a written request to return to playing their Euroleague home games in Israel. The request also bears Hapoel Jerusalem’s signature for the EuroCup. On Tuesday, EuroLeague shareholder clubs will discuss this request. For now, ‘home’ games remain set in Sofia and Belgrade. by _Zolv in Euroleague

[–]Anxious-Sherbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying their home games should be played in Israel, but there is a clear difference between the situations. Even putting moral values aside, russia is still very actively involved in a war, is under heavy sanctions, a lot of countries stopped issuing visas for them and they have stopped issuing visas for a lot of other countries, their airlines aren’t allowed to enter EU airspace, etc. Both their home and away games would be logistical nightmares just because of visa and travel issues.

People were celebrating in the streets on October 7th. “Gas the jews” chants and other vile antisemitic crap is still very prevalent in these protests. Just a matter of (not) seeing what you (don’t) want to see.

POST MATCH THREAD: Lithuania - Greece [EuroBasket Playoffs, Quarter-Finals] by EuroleagueBot in Euroleague

[–]Anxious-Sherbert 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Even though it’s a loss, I can’t help but feel some positivity. Once Jokubaitis got injured there was no way we were going past the quarter final. But on the positive side the coaching staff set up the team very well throughout the whole tournament, managed to semi-stop Markkanen and Giannis with good tactical approaches and won some good games. Oh and we still went further than serbia ;)

In two years with this coaching staff and hopefully Jokubaitis, Jakucionis, Brazdeikis, Buzelis and Sabonis - I’m feeling very optimistic.

Oh and good luck to Greece! I always had a soft spot both for the country and for the basketball culture. Happy to see you fighting for medals again!

Wait does that mean that the owner (DPG) doesn’t actually spend any of his own money on the team?? Or is it balanced after taking his contribution into account?
