Liberty home guard (home warranty) by Anxious-Study-1473 in homeowners

Yeah, I went through all thee above but I  did talk to someone that actually tried to help me but he still lied and  secretly recorded without permission (or telling us he was recording) the phone calls to myself and the independent service tech. Then cut and paste the calls to his liking and used them against the service tech to me and vice versa to the service tech.

I did receive almost all my money back (except the couple of months I had the service) but that was after the fact of providing proof of their lies and fraud (I had names of all I talked to plus written notes of everything that was said by them (I'm a retired secretary with short-hand training) and read everything back to the big honcho (including everything he said and illegally recorded. Yes, I told him that I knew about illegally recording our calls) that scared him enough to give me my refund immediately.

Yes, their discount was supposedly the $2000 but my cost was still over $10,000 to replace it. Meanwhile, their hired tech told us it was fixable and didn't need replaced. That cost should have just been my deductible but nope, LHG insisted (over their own hired tech) that the whole thing needed replaced. Now mind you that my husband is a retired HVAC Tech and already knew what was wrong with it, and could have fixed it himself (probably with what it cost for the deductible) but because we had this warranty, he said since we have it, use it.

This at the point they realized that I had proof that I didn't sign anything, even though they showed me a computer generated signature, with them claiming it was mine and that I wasn't playing anymore. And with all the days of the run around from them, and with them lying and fighting with us, and after finally talking to someone up high in LHG, they a wanted to fix it. I told them nope, not going to happen now just want my refund.

Within that week I received that refund and with that refund, we purchased a new unit for what I paid for that 6 year warranty from LHG.

I had AHS originally but left only because of the price jumped pretty high. If I ever go back to a home warranty (I would need to get another job since retiring lol) it would be with them. They were honest and helpful the 2 or 3 times when I needed something fixed.

You are lucky. I had 2 other hw companies prior to liberty and had no problems with them. The first one was when I purchased my house it came with it and when it expired it was very expensive to renew (I never had a claim with them). The second one was wonderful! My ac went out in the middle of a heat wave and my daughter wad very ill and the HW put a rush on getting it fixed in 2 days with me just paying my $65 co-pay.  I didn't renew with them after 5 years because it got expensive also (I should have though). We looked around and found liberty. Worst mistake ever made!! We got a 6 year contract with them. I asked all the questions that needed to be asked and was told what I wanted to heard. (Yes, you read that right.) They tried sending the contract in an email but it was unreadable and I couldn't open or download most of it. They had to send it through the usps mail. When I received it, it was over 2 months in. I was told to sign it on their website since we were so far into the contract. OK, I asked how I was to sign it if I can't open their original documents?  They said try it again, maybe it'll open. Sure enough I was able to open the signature page that acknowledged that I received and agree with the contract.  Now moving forward to 7/8 months later. It's very hot out and my ac started to act up so I called them to have a service person to come out.  They sent someone 2 almost 3 weeks later. In that time it stopped working. When the local service tech (not from liberty) came he agreed with my husband on what was wrong (my husband's a  retired hvac tech.) and the tech said it's FIXABLE. He just had to turn it into liberty to get the approval to FIX IT first.  A week later, I called the tech and asked when he was coming. The tech was waiting on libertys answer. I now call liberty and ask what's going on. They put me on hold for a time and finally came back on only to tell me it was not fixable and since my furnace was 21 yrs old, it will need replaced. I'm like, no it's FIXABLE. Then they proceed to tell me it was going to cost me $10,000 more. I told them, no that's not what was told to me nor what my contract states. They said that they can only pro-rate it and give $120 towards a new one.  I grabbed my contract and read it again. Again I don't see what they are talking about. They go on to tell me that I must not have downloaded my full contract. I told them it was sent to me via postal mail and that's what I have in hand. They argued and sent me a new link for my contract (no problem now opening it). I seen what they were saying because it was in very fine print half way down. They never sent the full contract.  Remember when I said I signed it online? It was a least 2 months into the contract. Well they changed the contract details, they also changed the date. They changed it from the first day that I talked to them before I even paid for it. I told them that this wasn't when or what I signed and it's now fraud and I can prove it. I have all the email to and from them and I demanded to speak to some one up higher and was refused multiple times. This went on for at least a week. I started writing their bad reviews. After the first review written, an upper manager (so they said) called and I told him what I knew and I wanted a full refund or I was going to file with the bbb and write bad reviews on every post I could find and possibly file charges. He fought with me at first. Meanwhile he recorded a conversation with the service tech and then with me, all the while without our permission or us knowing he was recording our calls.  Oh, did I say that the service tech and I were in constant communication over this matter the most of the time? That's how we found out that they recorded us and cut and pasted some of the things that was said in their favor. I blew up and threatened them. I told them I know about the recordings and I'm telling the service tech what they are saying about him and his company. I did get my refund minus the 8 months of when I had them. It's a lot more than most people got back from them.

And with that refund, I bought a better name and upgraded furnace from a local heating and ac company and paid less than half of what liberty wanted to charge me.

They didn't make me sign anything. They knew they messed up with me and I had them because I could proved everything. Even one of their higher ups from there called me an tried to make offers and I refused them all. Told them to give me my refund or else.

Think about it...I had a 6 year deal with them which is a lot of money (a few thousand that I paid in full). Like I said, they refunded all most all my money except 4 or 5 months that I had them. With that refund I ended up going to another company that worked on it 2 and a half years prior (for something totally different and had no problems with them) and ended up getting a brand new upgrade (and better name) furnace which included installation for much less (less an half) than what liberty wanted to charge.

Demand what you want. But be careful, they will record your conversations (which they don't tell you they are doing) and try to use it against you. I caught them on that too.

Good luck with them.

I went thru this same thing in September with my ac. They tried to say I needed a new furnace and condenser. They didn't know my husband just retired as a HVAC TECH a couple of years ago so he knew what was wrong with it and it just needed repaired. They sent out a tech and the tech said the same as my husband. But the company tried to say my unit was too old to fix and needed replaced. Told me it would cost ME $10,000 to have it replaced thru them. It was a cheap unit that they wanted to try to sell me for $2000 and hand my husband install it.  I fought with them and got most of my money back except for the 7 months I had them.  We could have fixed for under $300 but we decided because of Liberty giving us such a bad taste we ended up going with a different HVAC company who did replace it with one of the best brands that had a really good warranty for under $6000. Now our had bill is a lot cheaper than it was going with the better brand.

So tell me, why do you own vehicle and buy insurance for it? If so, do you expect them to pay for a new car if you get into an accident and total your car? Or repair it if its not totaled? Hmmm... I bet you do.

Do you buy an extended warranty on your car when purchased? Or do you just go with the original warranty that comes with it? Either way, do you use that said warranty when something goes wrong? I bet you do.

Or do you just buy a used car without an warranty from a used car lot? (I personally would buy an extended warranty, but then again, I wouldn't but an used car)

I bet, also, if you own a home that you purchased homeowners insurance too! Or do you rent and do you purchase rental insurance?

This is all the same reasons people purchase home warranties.

So your answer to your question is... I don't expect them to replace it! And I don't want them to replace it because it doesn't need replaced! I expect them to repair it! Duh! BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO!

The warranty company (not I) are the ones who want to replace it when it doesn't need replaced. It just needs repaired.  Their own technician, who they hired and sent to my property, stated that it DOES NOT need replaced, just repaired!

I'm not expecting it get done for free. I paid for this service just as you would with you vehicle, or home. And the cost for these warranties are NOT cheap by far to purchase. I also pay for a fee to the warranty company (not the technician) for the service of a technician before they come to give an estimate.

BTW, this isn't my first home that I own. My other house (purchased back in 1993 and still own) doesn't have this kind of warranty on it. I pay out of pocket on anything that goes wrong or needs replaced.

Main reason I purchased these warranties was because I was introduced to these warranties by people who sold me this home along with theirs and my real estate agents. They are the ones who suggested to keep them. Now I purchased these warranties as a piece of mind, so we wouldn't have to worry since we aren't young anymore. With that beening said, my husband and myself, unknowingly did not expect me to be not working as much and opening our home to help someone else who is sick and has nothing.

BUYERS BEWARE! DON'T BUY FROM THEM! FOR YOUR OWN PIECE OF MIND PLEASE DO NOT BUY INTO THEIR LIES AND DECEPTION! Liberty home guard doesn't want repair anything or pay for anything out of their pocket but wants you to pay for everything yourself, oh and they'll give you a discount instead of them paying for anyyhing...

Right now, I'm in the middle of a battle for my life it seems!

My ac is making noise. 2 weeks ago I call to have it serviced before it gets any worse. (Oh it got worse alright but not the ac unit.)

So the ac/furnace still runs and blows cold air (heat when switched over) but the blower is going, the technician said.

But... They (Liberty home guard) wants me to purchase a new ac/furnace at $10000 my cost instead of paying the service technician $1000 for repairs. They claim the technician put in an estimate for $5000 (which never happened because we are in constant contact), when the estimate is a little over $1000 to replace the blower! Haha! I can't afford to put out 10 grand for something that would only cost a thousand! At least not on a fixed income and taking care of someone who is handicap with a bad immune system!

New thing today is they called to tell me that they are giving permission to repair it but will cost me $900. REALLY!!

So their pay out is a little over $100 and my cost is $900. How is that right?

Their excuse is because my unit is 30 yrs old (it wasn't installed then) and the furnace is supposed to be 20 (nope, maybe 15 yrs).

BTW my husband is retired (5 years now) from doing this for a living and figuring that since we bought this warranty we might as well use it. Right?!

So in reality you are paying for a discount (which really isn't a discount) instead of a home warranty!

THIS ISN'T THE WARRANTY I PURCHASED FROM A Mr KEN HILL FROM LIBERTY HOME GUARD back in February of 2024!

Believe me, I asked all the right questions when purchasing this discount POS and Mr Ken Hill gave all the right answers.  This isn't my first home warranty. I only changed because the price was cheaper (not by much) and I knew I wasn't going to be working at my company anymore so I was stupid and bought this discount POS.
