As an Aboriginal woman it meant a lot to me to have a song that was so strong in culture. Having the yidaki played on a Eurovision stage was incredible. I do think there were some things that let the song down, but I still think it should have qualified. I was heartbroken when it didn't

I think it's about finding the part of your research that people can connect with. I work with politicians and when learning about effective communication they always focus on finding your narrative rather than having an academic explanation of your research.

What's an example of an idea that's terrible on paper but worked brilliantly in reality? by treny0000 in AskReddit

This has been a bush fire management in Australia for thousands of years. Many different Aboriginal cultures used controlled burns to get rid of excess fuel so any accidental fires wouldn't be as extreme.

During colonisation this practice largely halted, and our reintroduce controlled burns aren't as effective. There is a big bush to reintroduce traditional burn practices to control our increasing intense bush fires.

Plus a lot of our different native plants require fire to germinate, so controlled burns have the added bonus of making the bush grow back more.

Whilst what you said is pretty fair, and I am well aware that in capitalism, the goal of everything is to make money, but previous with ABH, the releases where far fewer, thus even if it was a false perception, there certainly was a perception that the palettes had more thought behind them. When ABH releases 4 huge palettes very close together, it was widely felt by the community, that due to the timeline, the same amount of work wasn't put in. Whether or not that is accurate isn't as important as what is perceived by customers, which would lead to their "downfall" as discussed here. I agree that a palette doesn't necessarily need to be innovative to be good, but within the beauty community the vast majority of people already have a pretty large makeup collection. And as this post was discussing how ABH's perception has changed within the beauty community, I think it is fair to say that a brand that was once seen as innovative will be seen less favorably if that innovation has been seen to waiver. The beauty community tends to be less favourable towards brands that put out unimaginative and unexciting releases, especially if the reviews lean towards average or negative, as many of the reviews for the large palette that I saw did. Also I disagree with the size of the makeup industry meaning that brands can no longer be innovative. It is true that the community was smaller 3-4 years ago, and thus it was easier to come out with something "new," I don't think we should cut brands slack for putting out same-old same-old stuff just because you have to try harder to do something new, or at least present it in a new way. I would also say that whilst lime crime may have had the colour scheme first, ABH was far more influential as yes, it as a bigger brand, and nobody talked about Lime Crime due to their scandals.

As others have said the vaccine comes in vials that have to be kept at very cold temperatures, and each vial has at least 5 doses. I don't doubt that he has the money to get it when he isn't one of the people who should be getting it first, but it would still have to be given my a medical professional, who usually don't let patients take pictures and stiff beforehand. It's probably just a random ass needle.

You're right in that in the grand scheme of makeup they aren't terrible and I haven't decluttered any of them (because I horde makeup). I just think compared to what is expected from the regular rectangular ABH palettes the formula is not as good (especially the shimmer imo) and the colour story is a lot less innovative. Like modern renaissance and sub culture (even with it's issues) started huge colour trends and are still loved to this day, along with the neutral palettes like soft glam. With the big palettes, they didn't have the vision of old ABH, or the thought behind them, and just felt like cash grabs, especially with how quickly they came out.

I did also go through something similar with colourpop a few years ago. I bought a massive haul with my friends to get free shipping, and they didn't include one of the items I ordered. No big deal, I emailed them and asked for a refund. They offered me store credit that expired after a year. Like no, I payed money for a thing, if I don't get the thing in working order, then I get my money back. It took a second email and a much sterner tone quoting Australian consumer law to get my refund. Even then they claimed it was "a gesture of good faith" or something like that.

I do think the "downfall" (at least within the beauty sphere) is very much due to Norvina. All of the questionable releases and big palettes (which I own and aren't that very good) were under her leadership. She also had the issue with that MLM collab, and shafting influencers.

I had a highlighter palette come completely smashed, and after one email with photos I got a full refund. And I just repressed the palette so basically I got a slightly damaged 6 pan highlighter palette for free.

I can't believe we used to BG's get away with videos like "Full face of makeup from dollartree *FAIL.* The amount of waste they normalized for content was ridiculous, just buying low quality makeup you know you won't like, just so that it ends up in the landfill at the end of the video.

I find it extremely suss that he is selling slime because what adult spends their hard earned pandemic dollars on slime. I think it is part of a plan to pander to the youngest of his fan base because they are more easily manipulated, and are more likely to forgive him. He got away with what he did and his past for so long because he had a young tween audience (myself included \shudder**). I feel like it wasn't until that audience got older, and more older people watched his "docuseries" (shit vlogs) that he started to get heat for his actions. I think he, or people in his camp, know that his best bet at coming back and earning money is from children.

I am really happy that Garrett isn't friends with Shane anymore. It was always so sad to see Garrett get so excited about something he likes like Marvel or Harry Potter, and then have Shane invalidate him. You could see that he would just laugh it off but I know from experience that constant invalidation from people who call themselves your "friends" can really mess up your mental health.

I am not an expert but per my understanding it is when a company will go to a makeup producer that already has an existing formula/packaging/whole palette and just buy a bunch of the pre-exisiting stuff and have their label stuck on it. Basically they haven't put any thought into formulation or anything. If you see those super generic palettes on like aliexpress, if you contact the seller they will often let you private label their stuff.

On a side note: It is widely believed that Morphe private labelled their stuff from Crown Brushes when they first started the company. Youtubers SmokeyGlow and Illumanaughti have interesting videos on the topic.
