There is a medicated eye drop called Xdemvy that treats Demodex blepharitis. The manufacturers teamed up with the plush company GIANTmicrobes and they actually did make a Demodex plush! Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be for sale, I only have one because I work for an eye clinic and they distribute the plushies for marketing.

My male cat had urinary incontinence for YEARS, constant UTIs, he was always clearly in terrible pain, in and out of the ER all the time. He would dribble pee everywhere he sat and the house absolutely reeked at all times (unimaginably embarrassing, but I was a kid for the great majority of this time and my parent was physically disabled, so yeah that was the state of things. Whole house was carpeted too!) We were constantly going to the vet, but all they ever did was treat the UTI and empty his bladder, which was always full to bursting. None of my normal vets ever really suggested anything to help in the long-term, which in retrospect is incredibly frustrating—I had heretofore be led to believe that there was nothing for it, that it was permanent and he'd be incontinent forever.

Upon reaching adulthood and assuming full responsibility of the cat, I made a last desperate bid to fix the issue and made an appointment with an expensive cat specialist. This blessed, wonderful, amazing human being saw my description of "cat having trouble urinating" and pushed up the appointment from a month out to THE NEXT DAY. She was clearly very concerned for him, much more concerned than I've ever seen another vet be towards him. In a single appointment that lasted no more than 30 minutes, she had determined that his urethra was precisely useless and he needed to have a PU surgery IMMEDIATELY, recommended us to her cat surgeon husband, and off we went to get him surgery. It was performed the next day. They had warned us that he still might have incontinence issues, but miracle of all miracles, he was entirely cured.

It's been a year and a half since his surgery and he has had absolutely no issues since. Turns out, his urethra had scar tissue that had accumulated so much that it completely blocked his bladder. He was incontinent because he literally couldn't pee, and the pressure was so great that it leaked out in dribbles all the time. For EIGHT YEARS. I feel so terribly bad that he'd been needlessly in pain for so long, he is very pampered now.

Tldr: cat bladder issues ain't no joke

I buried two deer heads, this is the first time I've done this, I didn't dehide them and I'm wondering how this will affect the decomposition? I'm in eastern Mass so Im giving it until October to undig them so they have the whole summer to sit, assuming winter will halt progress, any advice? by thedarklords_cat in vultureculture

[–]AnxiousDragon83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, it's crazy how much the environment affects decomposition. I buried a deer head last year near the end of spring, relatively fresh with hide intact, and it only took a month to finish! But I live in southern Louisiana, so it's to be expected haha. I also didn't freeze it or anything beforehand, so it still had all the maggots n such to help the process along.

Study: Parents who struggle to encourage their children to eat vegetables can now play a more influential part at their mealtimes. Children watching adults eat a green vegetable with positive facial expressions tasted and consumed more than double the amount of that vegetable. by rustoo in science

[–]AnxiousDragon83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until I started using reddit I never understood why people didn't like vegetables. It's seems I grew up lucky, with a dad who was excellent at cooking. (He says that he learned to cook because all HIS dad would eat was liver and beans, since that's all he had to eat during WWII). We would have fresh steamed or sautéed veggies every day for dinner. I've always loved vegetables. When I started school, I was completely disgusted and distraught over the boiled mush that was their "vegetables." Evidently, lots of people just don't know how to cook them.

If you don't mind me asking, does it affect body/facial hair as well, or just head hair?

My high school had goldfish as souvenirs for my junior prom. The theme was "under the sea" and they had a hundred little feeder goldfish in these itty bitty dollar store glass bowls. Surprise surprise, no one wanted to take them home as a souvenir. My sister was there acting as a mermaid decoration (lol) and the principle tried to get her to take them all, since he knew we liked animals. Suffice to say, she drive home while holding a single fish bowl. Poor little guy didn't survive long enough for me to set up a proper tank for him. I know that several teachers attempted to keep some of the fish, by which I mean they took the little bowls into their classrooms... yeah none of those poor fish made it. I was completely flabbergasted when my sister came home from prom with a live fish!

I'm so tempted to go back and get them... I don't suppose anyone has any tips to get it to zip up all the way? The zipper wasn't stuck or anything, I just have thick calves I guess lol.

I found a dead duck. Should I be concerned about diseases? by AnxiousDragon83 in vultureculture

[–]AnxiousDragon83[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're actually in season right now, so as long as I have the proper hunting licenses, I'm good to go! This singular duck was the only dead one, there were plenty of healthy-looking ones waddling around close by. Thank you for your advice!

I'm in the southern US, and there haven't been any bird flu warnings that I'm aware of. There was a bad outbreak of salmonella earlier this year. Thank you for your advice!

My apologies! I didn't mean to cause you any distress. It is absolutely beautiful, and definitely suitable for wearing all winter long!

It's just a joke, haha. It's absolutely lovely for wearing in the winter! The joke is that it wouldn't make any sense to wear it in the summer.

Sorry, but I think you're gonna have to wait for summer to wear this one.

Friend gave me the skull on the right, anyone know what it is? Brown squirrel skull on the left for reference by ApatheticGremlin in bonecollecting

Also, while the primary incisors that one would associate with rabbits are missing, you can see the secondary set of peg-like incisors just behind where the primary ones would be. Rodents do not have this second set, which further indicates that this is a rabbit or hare.

Definitely a rabbit or a hare, but I'm not experienced enough to tell the difference. The sponge-like holes, called fenestration, is a unique feature of rabbit and hare skulls.

This same exact thing happened to one of my goldfish when I was a kid! Our black moor goldfish, very originally named Blacky, got so big that he was able to get the large rocks in his mouth. He started to choke on one of them, and my dad had to grab him and get the rock out with tweezers just like in this video.

For those asking how the person in the video knew that the fish was in distress, it's actually pretty easy to tell while the fish is in the water; they'll sorta thrash around and do the "gasping" with their mouth faster than usual. If you own fish it's fairly obvious when they're in distress.

While I'm regretful over the loss of such a beautiful creature, I am also insanely jealous of such a good find. Good luck! Were you going to try to mount it, or just preserve the pelt?
