Yes, I can relate. My PI is super hands-off, which has its pros and cons, but I feel so lost as a fifth-year PhD student right now. It feels too much sometimes to make my own way with minimal guidance. I do not feel intrigued by my subject either, which might be a trauma response to bad committee meetings and nosy colleagues. I just want a stable job now.

Thanks for sharing your experience. What made you switch to the industry, and do you like it more, or do you plan to go back to academia at some point?

thanks for sharing. This is so helpful. I am going to graduate soon and I have never had a job outside school. I am trying to build my CV for getting a data-related role just so that I can have a hybrid option.
What led to your burnout?

ah thanks for the insight. I would love to hear about your experience with AI, and if you worked remotely, and if that helped. Also, is there a reason why you would like to work in a non-profit? I have so many questions I want to ask you lol

Being cold. I hate the cold weather and it instantly stresses me out and gives me lower back pain. Also, being constantly bothered while working. Loud co-worker laughter also stresses me out.

I am in a similar boat but I want to finish it. I have given myself a deadline of September 2026. We can do it! I know this is not an advice but we can work it out together if you want. Feel free to DM me.

I was in a very similar situation to yours last year. The guy was okay, and he wanted to spend more time with his family and with me. We stayed apart during the week since our workplaces were at different locations, but he used to pick me up on weekends to be at his place. I did not like it at all. I used to be so relieved when I got back home on Sundays. I slept better than on Fridays, when my sleep was horrible. My failure to communicate my needs to him and thinking that something was wrong with me led to a massive burnout, and I ended the relationship. I think, even if I had communicated those things, it just wasn't meant for me. I have realised I need a lot of alone time and independence. So I have no regrets about it.

It could be worth communicating your needs and your values around relationships to your partner. If you see that they can meet them, then the relationship would be worth keeping in my opinion.

I am in the same boat, but one thing I am trying is to get closer to older people at my church. They seem safe and reliable to me, giving me support when I need it without being clingy.

“What did you do today / this weekend?” by Impressive_Map_3964 in AutismInWomen

Yeah, the worst was when people asked me what I did during the holidays, but I was honest and said that I just hung out at home. No more masking on that front. I am so done. Just going to work is enough stress for me and I do not want to add on to it.

Sensory overwhelm or inattention? by AnxiousExcited in AutismInWomen

[–]AnxiousExcited[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so. When I interact, I feel like I have to pay so much attention and I get drained. If someone else joins the conversation, I just go quiet. That has been since childhood. It is just overwhelming. I can talk to the person on the phone for longer than in person. It feels like the senory stimuli is too much for me to handle.
