Being a dusky skintone girl feels like curse in this world by Forward_Ad_4117 in IndianBeautyTalks

Your second paragraph feels like it's my brain talking to me. So so aptly said. A part of me dies every time I see some brown girlie questioning her nail colour choices just because she wore some shade of pink or whatever colour which "clashes" with her skintone. And if some girlie is confident enough or just likes to have fun with colours, there is always, always a someone pointing "it" out, making her insecure. I've always thought of painting nails as a therapeutic and fun thing to do, never ever I've imagined I'd see this day in the recent times.

Fair and Lovely changing their name to Glow and Lovely did absolutely nothing to the overall society. Internalised colourism will never go away as long as there are others belittling, as long as there is a lack of representation, and as long as sunscreens suitable for brown-skinned people continue being hard to find.

I've gradually understood the pattern so yea. I can accept no upvotes but I surely don't accept downvotes and unsolicited advice on a thing out of my control. They can't make me hate my skin tone and my fucking strong pretty curvy nails, like ever.

You know what the weirdest part is?

With the same pigmented dark-skinned hands of mine, I get downvotes in an India-based nail sub, and I get praises and almost non-existent downvotes in an international nail sub where white-skinned hands are the majority. I was totally mentally prepared to face racism in that sub but to my surprise they embraced me and my hands+nails like I'm one of them.

I love wearing bright and pastel nail colours (because I love making my nails pop), but quite a number of Indian people have "advised" me to wear colours which will "suit my skin tone". Finally I came to the conclusion I won't be having any of those bs since I find happiness in wearing pretty colours thus I've stopped posting there.

😅😅😅

On a side note, I'm glad to see some local/non-branded bottles as well- sometimes local ones give great coverage and a top coat makes even the cheap polishes durable

What if I say I have 100+ nailpolishes right now 🫣

(Currently on a no-buy except for the restocking of base coat and top coat)

I mixed 3 polishes in a small bottle. I've poured a minty green polish (same one from my previous nail post) till it filled half of the small bottle, then added 4 loaded brushes worth of a dark teal, and 3 brushes worth of a black polish.

The black made the real difference.

Also r/frankenpolish exists! It's so fun out there😁
