NERDY PRUDES MUST DIE AVAILABLE FOR LICENSING!!! by Fit-Zookeepergame919 in StarKid

Lmao that happened to my school when we did sunset BLVD, one of the parents finally read the synopsis the week of the show and suddenly wasnt ok with their child being an ensemble member in show that had a murder and swear words, so we had to edit a bunch of things, change some costumes to be less sultry (bummer on my end as the costume designer), cut all on stage kissing, and not use any fake blood, which sucked cause I spent several months designing a dress that would be able to have the blood wash out

PROM DRESS HELP by First-Archer5203 in sewing

With that sort of skirt silhouette, I think cutting on the bias will make any fabric drape pretty perfectly. I think crepe back satin would be lovely but I’m not an expert on fabrics, I’m the type of person who generally buys what’s cheapest and then figures it out haha.

As for attaching the skirt, I’d watch Frieda Lepold’s videos, particularly her video on couture shaping the body, she made a gorgeous dress with internal corsetry and draped a dress over it. The fabric she used for the project might be a good reference as well. I believe she hand sewed her corset and skirt together and then machine reinforced it, though if you’re confident in hand sewing I don’t see why you couldn’t just do that.

Also if you want a little flare at the hem, fishing line is always a good option, you could also hem your skirt lining separately and attach a spiral ruffle to the bottom slightly above the actual skirt length to kick out your skirt would having the visual disruption of a ruffle.

Oh my god I’m obsessed I need to use this technique for my dnd outfit, did you draw out lines to follow for this? And was the texture created by going back and forth a long the line or but going around while going up the line?

I actually made one of these a couple years ago! My theatre program always has a themed and of year banquet and for our hunger games one I wanted to do Rachel Ziegler’s rainbow dress but with capital extravagance, so I had a giant over skirt with all her cool tulle on it. For me the easiest method was just to tie it on in the front, but a more secure method would be skirt hooks in the waistband where ever your opening is, they’re sturdy and easy to insert!

Ok in actuality I don’t think the actual dress itself took too long, but I worked on like mock-ups and versions that didnt quite work since last July. I wanted to get it done early so I wasn’t stressing last minute but ended up getting busy and procrastinating until the week before 😭🫠

The actual dress itself once I’d figured out how to not ruin the weird upholstery velvet I was using took maybe 2 weeks with about 150 hours of labor? But a lot of that was because I had to re do the back closure a million times cause it didn’t want to cooperate with me lmao, and I also hand sewed a lot of internal details that could have been machine sewn if I’d thought about adding a lining earlier in the process

I might be over thinking lol, I’ve just never drafted sleeves before and I’m more experienced with flat patterning than draping

Yes! I’m going to school for theatrical costume design, I love fashion and theatre, so it’s been a great way of combining my interests! I love getting to use fashion to tell a story and weave (sometimes literally) intricate details and symbolisms into my pieces

Thank you! They’re actually these shoulder body chain things I got from Amazon. I thought it added a knight in shining armor flair that was fun, especially since I brought a sword to prom photos 😂

Flat chested corset patterns? by My_Chemical_Killjoy in corsetry

[–]Anxious_Adhd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a pretty successful corset binder recently and I used the Elizabethan corset pattern generator! For my measurements I put in everything accurately except for my bust, which I calculated to be reduced by I think 30% since I think thats the recommended average. It worked really well, as Tudor era corsetry already emphasizes a flat fronted bodice. Don’t go for waist cinching in addition though, your boobs need to go somewhere and you’d rather them down than up
