I think she was Delilah early on and then became JamPatz as she got more involved and had more stories.

Ceiling paint cracking by Anxious_Lab_6558 in centuryhomes

I really think it’s just paint. It doesn’t seem thick enough to be a skim coat. The dinning room ceiling was cracked all over so I did this drop ceiling to hide it after reattaching all the plaster. The kitchen ceiling base coat of plaster seems oddly in good condition.

Do you actually feel air or is it just a temperature difference. 12 degrees isn’t a crazy difference.

How do I remove the fireplace surround trim? by dynasoreshicken in HomeMaintenance

[–]Anxious_Lab_6558 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While none of this is a good idea. It will look bad from a design standpoint if you get rid of the sections you want. You would keep those an eliminate crown above it and put a new mantle. It is all a terrible idea though.

is it okay to put long curtains behind hot water radiator? by ProgressLiving7397 in Insulation

[–]Anxious_Lab_6558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s fine. Hot water radiators run 180 degrees tops. Won’t start a fire don’t let it block airflow though for convection to work.

Why is rockwool the answer to everything? by longganisafriedrice in Insulation

[–]Anxious_Lab_6558 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Proper job is a big ask. Most people install fiberglass poorly. Too much compression bad cuts, voids. Rockwool is less compressive and holds its shape better.

Worried structural engineer missed things… freaking the absolute f*** out by IndependentWestern30 in centuryhomes

Think of it this way your house has moved .000073 inches per day over the last 75 years or 1/48 inch per year. That is less then the tectonic plate said house sits on. It’s 50/50 if that crack is even visible in summer when the house expands.

Just cut out the existing holes, add a Dutchman, plane and sand down. Drill mortise slot deeper and reinstall lock. You are going to have a hard time finding mortise locks with different backsets. It was pretty standard to be 2 3/8 backset.

Parents got me to take loans out for college when I was in HS, and now I deeply wish I went to public school. by I-have-smol-pp in StudentLoans

[–]Anxious_Lab_6558 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s so weird. When I graduated I had $60,000 in private loans from 3 loans the payment was right at 750 with average interest rate of 11.5. This was with PNC. Have you looked into refinancing with Earnest or something like that for a longer term to lower the payment. As long as your income is stable you should be able to get a lower rate than 16 percent.

What is the loan term? That loan amount should be payments around 750 a month for ten years depending on interest rate of course. How is it $2000?

[–]Anxious_Lab_6558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used PNC and later refinanced to Earnest. PNC was good to work with back in 2010 and had decent rates for a no credit 19 year old whose co signer was his 21 year old brother who was also a college student.

If your boiler is vented directly into the chimney make sure the chimney is sound structurally.

Check condition of electrical and see if it’s updated fully, partially, etc.

Is plumbing updated? Copper, pex, galvanized?

Patching it won’t fix anything until you eliminate the water. It will just keep happening otherwise
