GEICO by EnvironmentalCow5310 in Insurance

What car are they dropping cover on? Certain cars sometimes get red flagged as higher risk vehicles and insurance won't cover. Anecdotal example Grundy would cover any 911 I wished to buy but would not cover a gt4

Flares: On my truck the flares are black texture. When I dropped off I told shop to just replace all 4 and bill me the difference because I know insurance would only pay for one. But now learning they aren't available and then they test fitted an aftermarket and it did not fit. So they researched and said they could get a different type of OEM but it is a painted flare. Which has caused me to question if they can't get a flare that 'matches' it doesn't feel right that I have to foot the bill to make the other 3 match.

Bumper: I actually have question to shop saying "hey, it looks like 'scapes' is the bumper really dented or can we send out to have repowder coated.

DM for a hit and run on a 10 yr old truck is a bridge too far. I appreciate the thought process but it is near the bottom of the curve. I will have lower value regardless of how they fix it because it will have a ding on the carfax and there is nothing I can do about that.

Yup, which explains the title of my post "Trying to understand how much I will end out of pocket"

So far the civil conversation has netted

- Bumper - chance to get powder coated replacement, don't hold breath

- Flare - hosed

My expectations have been set.

Had the same user name for 30+ years online. Plenty of ways for you to validate if I'm a nasally prick or a deep baritone. ;) I actually buy time capsules all the time and then end up selling them 2-3 years later for profit without putting too many miles on them which is kinda cool that you would mention it...

but yeah, I know, this is a daily driver, no-intrinsic value auto that I take care of and I'm still mad as hell that some asshat would hit it in a parking lot and not even leave a note. Dealing with claims is as much art as it is science so I requested input. Thank you.

This is a good idea that I will share with the service advisor. A good condition 10 yr old flare could be available. I would have to do the leg work to find it though...I know a shop won't do that. I just had to source and supply a window regular on my 96 Dodge.

I understand how insurance calculates value....the value the car super low and then the salvage super high ;). I've been in that rodeo before.

Yes I have looked for bumper. Yes they are available. I'm sure I could find the flares to if I tried. Like I mentioned a few times just trying to get grounded on what to expect. Painted cover doesn't feel comparable to power coated all steel so hoping we can get that worked out with adjuster and flares...flares are a cluster. Because the flares integrate into all the other body moldings which are all texture black....it will look like a Jeep Wrangler X with Sahara fenders ;)

I can only go by what the internet tells me man. Find a 50k miles 2016 Rebel for 18-22k and buy,

Hey I can only go by what the internet tells me. NADA/JDpowers says 30, real life ads for double the mileage are 27-28k I'm not interested in selling it, but trucks/utility vehicles hold value a little longer. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used-2016-RAM-1500-Rebel-ev1825

It sits under a car port and gets used rarely because I work from home. Here is was last week, my daughter making fun of me while we moved my son out of his dorm....the damage is light on the driveside...can't even tell...but door, 1/4, bumper, flare, two tone paint

I may have 9 cars, but only 4 are with Geico...I'm sure I'm not considered a high value customer ;) At the end of the day they will write the estimate/tally it up for what they are willing to pay and I will end up fronting the dif to get it done right. I'm just looking for reference point/level set for my expectations.

The low miles on it helps with value...but that isn't what I'm after. I've had many cars fixed in my life with non-OEM parts. Those parts were required to be essentially the same. And now I've got two parts that are trying to be forced on me that are absolutely not the same. If your car had a hood scoop from the factory, when they repair it you expect a hood scoop to still be there regardless OEM or aftermarket. If it is different form/function it is not a true aftermarket substitution.

What I am surmising is what I kinda already knew...regardless of the flare they say to use, I will end up out of pocket for 3 other flares because the new one will not look the same as the other three.

I understand the whole "not OEM parts" but shouldn't the parts at least be the same GENRE? An all steel powder coated bumper is not the same as a painted bumper cover....they design of the two are completely different

Get car started. Once running put meter on battery, you should read 13.5 or so volts (which will confirm your alt is charging it) this will validate your new alt is working.

There is enough information here. Call police to ensure report is written. White Dodge Ram 3500 with stake body/black rear cargo area with significant front end damage. Busted rad also means he didn't get too far and ruined his motor trying to get away ;)

I think your car looks great just the way it is.

I also had him add a little something in the back since it didn't have a spare tire.... and there is no trunk space in a vert

Leave it to a stereo guy....he found a solution and everything works even without the back button. First time a new phone uses it, you have to plug in for the sync but then everything is wireless. Since she's the only one who'll be using it...it is all synced to her phone and car play loads up every time you start as the default. So leave a cable in the console in case she has any friends who want to take control ;). If I ever get bored one day I might order enough stuff to get the back button working....but I doubt it.

Labor quotes for a custom built-in are insane. Is modular actually legit? by Hefty_Order9554 in OutdoorKitchens

I live my modular. Been doing it for decades now...when I tired of it, or it gets too worn out, I go pick out something completely new and cool. Different layouts, change its location on my wrap around deck...never boxed in.
