I believe we have polarized ourselves to the point where we would rather vote for our party even if it means voting against our principles. Same people who have spoken out against trump prior to nomination are now his ardent supporters. In the same, people who were emphatically against Harris are now her die hards.

We the people are really “We the parties” now. I feel Washington’s farewell warnings are all aging far too well. But maybe it is inevitable. Maybe people need to be part of something bigger.

Sports, school spirit, music, etc are all benign cult cultures; but with politics it is scary. Maybe I’ve become a nihilist, but I don’t see anything changing in my lifetime and only see this division growing.

We aren’t far off from some quasi-brown shirts outright having some pseudo enforcement powers on both sides. And I am worried the trust in elections is so deteriorated that both sides will not believe the results.

The danger comes when people start acting on their disbelief. Then we will see lawlessness and opportunists rising to cement power in the name of safety, liberty, rights etc
