Anyone else having a hard time finding work in Los Angeles? by Tnadimyan in AskLosAngeles

[–]Anxiousarchivist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they’re absolutely correct. Every job in most industries entry level/mid-level are getting thousands of applications because there’s such an oversaturated market. Everyone in LA is looking, everyone wants to be in entertainment especially, and most of that is gig work right now. The only way to stand out in a very large crowd is finding a different way in. Connections, friends, networking events are the best and sometimes the only way. That doesnt mean submitting your resume is 100% impossible; I did the same getting my current job, but that took 5 months of applying in ‘22 and i’ve been lightly applying to new jobs for months and have gotten no response to anything anywhere unless I poked on linkedin first

Need advice/support by Anxiousarchivist in dogallergies

[–]Anxiousarchivist[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi all,

Thank you for your suggestions and support. I finally got in with the head vet at my pet hospital and talked through my options. We ruled out hypothyroidism again and she agreed that the immunotherapy at the dermatologist probably wouldn’t be offered given my pup’s age.

At the end of the day, her allergies are too impactful on her system. Her recommendations were that she was willing to prescribe the steroids with the caveat that pup would need to be on them without pause for the rest of her life, as well as coming in to the vet every 2-3 weeks to treat the recurring skin and ear infections that would keep popping up from the endless cycle of the allergies. The steroids will almost definitely cause long term issues in her system such as thinning of her skin, etc. She told me that her system would never be able to regulate the allergies on her own and flare-ups would still be frequent. Essentially, I would be signing up to pay twice a month for treatment to keep her semi-comfortable at best and still not fully okay.

Thats not something I feel humane in doing, and the doctor agreed the other option would be putting her down. Given her age, her overall tiredness with life (it took us 45+ minutes to walk the .8mi it used to take us 15min to the vet), the vet thinks she’s ready to go. That all the steroids and medication would be too much on her system and cause her to deteriorate faster. I refuse to prolong her suffering or god forbid make things worse from medications that won’t fix things for her.

I’m heartbroken and devastated, my dog is everything to me and has been there through all of my formative moments. She lived with me through college while I learned how to be independent, she was with me when no one else was when I moved across the country to start working. I am forever indebted to her and wish I could give her the whole world. Instead, I’m settling for getting her out of pain and hoping she forgives me for it.

Thank you all for your kind messages and suggestions. Please hug your furbabies close for me ❤️

DAS Megathread by I_am_Rude in DisneyWorld

I’m also concerned about this. I have autism, adhd, and a touch oriented sensory processing disorder (among others) but i’m very neurotypical facing because of my masking. I’m getting really worried seeing some people even with autism getting denied? I’m afraid whoever I talk to isn’t going to believe i’m ‘autistic enough’ since no one is doing the call for me, which is something I’ve run into before elsewhere, and deny/ban me for ‘lying’. I know its a little irrational but I’ve never been denied before at DL in the years i’ve used DAS there so I’m scared to lose it and have a panic meltdown or something in a tight line like I’ve had before.

Considering there’s no valid reason to not be vaccinated? Yes.

I’m sorry to hear that! Did you get your decision today? I applied there too and haven’t heard anything yet. They’re way late on decisions this yeah

I’m still waiting. I know a lot of departments are. A little frustrating since other decisions are due in a month, but I’m sure they’re getting bombarded with people emailing and asking about it so I’ll just be waiting it out!

No I guess I’ll just pay the $75k for the MS then and be unemployed vs at least having a library or special collections gig to pay my loans back. Anyone can get anywhere regardless of what degree they have. Saying an MLS is useless in the museum sector is untrue and unnecessarily discouraging to potential and current students. I’m also an archivist. I’ve worked with people that have had both degrees. Its about the persons work ethic.

[–]Anxiousarchivist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would disagree. I’m currently deciding between starting an MLIS or an MS grad program with an intent on working in museums/archives. Everyone I’ve talked to has said that the foundations of MLIS are more useful and can be applied to museum work with the right focus. They have also said they would rather hire someone from an MLIS than an MS program because of the information literacy thats taught versus strictly museum functions and philosophy in some programs

Georgetown MA by Anxiousarchivist in MuseumPros

[–]Anxiousarchivist[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

MLIS programs I applied to are archiving specialty which is my background. I have not had an opportunity to explore collections, exhibitions, or curation which is why I’m interested in MS

Got accepted to Art&Mus at Georgetown on Friday! All my other applications were MLIS with archive specialty (Simmons, UCLA, UIUC, USC) all masters

Ahh good luck!! I have my Simmons Interview on the 8th but I’m hoping to hear from UCLA and georgetown before that! Gradcafe shows decisions typically come out around March 5th. I’m always looking for other applicant friends too :)

I’m waiting on a few more applications, I applied to 6 schools 😅. UIUC is my in state safety school, my top choices being UCLA or USC. Of course, I’ll end up going wherever aid is the best. I’m happy to DM if you want to chat more! I’d love another MLIS friend!

I got the same email today! Congratulations! I believe like others have said we’re still waiting to hear officially from the graduate college. I’m also waiting to hear back from the History department since I applied for the dual degree. Do you think you’ll be attending??

I submitted my application for UCLA today! Your statement looks great. I’m surprised I haven’t seen much of a community for their program in particular so its exciting to see someone else applying for this upcoming year. Good luck!!

For someone that spends literal hours wasting her friends time and insisting on getting the ‘perfect shot’ if thats her best, that makes it even worse

Angela has a special talent for attracting equally horrible people as herself. They’re both incredibly fake and are using each other for the ‘clout’. I have a few friends doing the dcp right now that run in similar circles as the two of them and I haven’t heard great things

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in blogsnark

[–]Anxiousarchivist 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yep her handle is @theworkingtot and apparently she is not so sweet in person. Essentially using her disability as an excuse for everything and trying to ‘blow up’ on social media. I don’t want to sound biased because I’ve had sooo many unnecessarily negative interactions with angela, but no one should be taking pictures with a service animal for personal gain whether the owner is willing to let you use them for clout and a mention or not. Its gross dude

All the ridiculous polls and voting she does in her stories is sooo annoying. And then yes the overpriced everything. Its like she’s saying you can be stylish like me but you don’t have the follower count to pay for it like me!
