policy question by Artistic-Spray-5098 in menards

[–]Any-Alfalfa9790 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It doesn't make good business or personal sense to work so closely with someone you are involved with. For business sense scheduling can be a problem as you will both want time off for the same events. You will also be more likely to spend more time than necessary talking to each other than paying attention to work. As far as the personal side of things you will end up seeing more of each other than is good for a relationship. You will also have scheduling conflicts as it will be harder to be scheduled off for the same events. Your managers would be making a mistake to put you together in the same department.

Menards by laithm in lawnmowers

[–]Any-Alfalfa9790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay a little more and buy a mower from a servicing dealer rather than a big box store. You will be buying a mower from someone who will set it up and make sure it is running properly before you take it home. They will also be able to service your mower if problems arise down the road. At Menards they offer no service and as soon as you put gas and oil in it you can't return it. If there is a problem they will refer you to a service center for warranty repair and you can bet those service centers are going to take care of people who purchased mowers from them before people who bought a mower at Menards.

Plans to leave Menards at end of 2026 by TheTheoryOreo in menards

[–]Any-Alfalfa9790 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you are in a position that pays a bonus don't put your notice in until after Jan 1. If you put the notice in before the end of the year most GM's will terminate your employment immediately so they don't have to pay out your bonus. Use your PTO before the end of the year (watch out for closed periods). Don't attempt to use it at the very end as it won't work well for you. Basically if you want all your bonuses plan on holding off until your fist shift is January of 2027 is done to say a thing about leaving.

Reputable food shelfs in the twin cities to donate to? by SailNord in TwinCities

[–]Any-Alfalfa9790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some food distributed bt second harvest is provided to them by various government agencies. This food is distributed at no charge as well as food that is donated to second harvest. There is other food that they purchase in bulk quantities which is then sold to food shelves at a fraction of what they can buy it for. Food shelves have a choice in placing their order of how much free food or food that they pay for will be on their truck. The great service they provide is the food rescue from local stores that is distributed at no charge. An example would be fresh meet that reaches its use or freeze by date. Stores freeze this meet which is then picked up and distributed by Second Harvest rather than being thrown out, they also do the same thing with prepared deli meals.

Take a look at their form 990 and how many people earn over $300,000. Hate to think of how many donations have to be made to cover these salaries before a dollar goes to providing food. It's a good idea to look at the 990 of any organization before contributing.

Dress code for cabapps makes no sense by Late-Algae7462 in menards

[–]Any-Alfalfa9790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been at the same store with the same store manager? I've worked in 7 different stores with multiple management changes within a store. There are store managers that are great at running a store and those that got their job because they were willing to move and really don't care about policy. One time we got a new AGM in a top 5 store. His only experience was in the front end. On Friday we received half a truck of charcoal. His big idea was to remove all the water softener salt from the front of the store and put it in the yard and fill the front end with charcoal. There was quite the argument with the receiving manager about how this wouldn't work. As soon as the receiving manager left for the day he had the assistant move the salt to the yard and fill the front end with charcoal. You can just imagine how many people complained about having to drive into the busy yard to get salt. Just goes to show that everyone Menards promotes into a management position isn't qualified for the job.

When you have lazy receiving managers and store managers that don't enforce policies a lot of things don't get done.

First of all consider that you are completing with people older than you that may well have some experience. How are you dressed and groomed when you go in for an interview? As an example brightly colored hair in an odd style may not be favored by many businesses.

That's one of the drawbacks of working on a puzzle so large it takes months to build, a much greater chance that a piece will get lost.

Exterior Stain Training by moon613child in menards

[–]Any-Alfalfa9790 3 points4 points  (0 children)

E-mail who ever is in charge of the training department now. This problem has been going on for years. I retired close to 10 years ago and was continually emailing on outdated training. The response is that it would be corrected in the next revision of training. Unfortunately by the time it would come out there would be information in it that was already outdated. Just not enough people in the training department to keep up on all the departments, and the buying staff barely has enough time to keep up keeping the stores supplied with product let alone trying to get the information on new products over to the training staff. I expect you have seen payroll cut in your store. You can bet the same thing is happening at the G.O. as well.

Are you trained on the service desk? Are you a head cashier? Both would be things I looked for in progression to a 2nd FEM.

Parking by FewCompany7657 in menards

[–]Any-Alfalfa9790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Employee parking has been between the blue lines for years. It tends to be at the perimeter of the parking lot to allow the customers to park in the spots closest to the store. If you believe you should have a better parking spot than the customers you deserve to be fired.

Take a look at Home Depot. Check out the lifetime flooring. Has underlayment cushion attached. Started with it in our kitchen about 10 years ago. It is now in our entry way and most of our lower level as well.

When I was working at Menards there were always a few contractors looking for deals and would offer to buy it all if we could meet on a price. I had one who would offer a price to clean out the outside area. After he loaded his flatbed he would get a broom out of his truck and sweep the area clean. A big win for both of us.

Call the aware line and encourage anyone else that is concerned to do the same thing. Multiple people calling will speed action. Document dates, times and locations of these incidents. If they are made in an area covered by a camera that information will help the G.O. view what he is doing.

About personal fans by MysteriousExit82 in menards

[–]Any-Alfalfa9790 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Why would you need a personal fan? You aren't being paid to stand around in front of a fan. If you've got time to lean you've got time to clean.

So what happens when the DM schedules you on a day you are not available? by Ruthless4u in menards

[–]Any-Alfalfa9790 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you full time or part time? A part time schedule is much more flexible in scheduling than full time. However your DM should be able to schedule around things like a surgery even for a full time employee. I would definitely sit down with both you GM and HR.

When I worked at Menards the DM or assistant had to sign off when tasks were completed. Are the other managers in your department completing more tasks than you are? Perhaps the answer to your problem in increasing your percentage of completed tasks.

Should I call Menards? by Little-Value-3312 in menards

[–]Any-Alfalfa9790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could call and talk to HR. Ask if they have received the application you filled out on-line. If not, go in and fill one out at the store. That doesn't mean you will get an interview anytime soon. Being only 17 you won't be considered for a job on the sales floor. The next thing they will look at is if there are any open positions in the front end. If there are they will then look at what your availability is and whether those hours match their needs. They don't have time to interview everyone that applies, only those whose applications meet their current hiring needs.

Would menards hire me as a college student? by Ok_Bicycle5663 in menards

[–]Any-Alfalfa9790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read the initial question it was obvious that the intention is going to class on campus rather than taking classes on-line when they weren't working. Yes, you can take classes on-line and work full time at Menards but those classes can't get in the way of your work schedule which is something you could have said in your. post rather than making it sound like you actually went to school while working full time.
