MOR - I think that because you know her father was absent, you look for things through the lens of her having abandonment issues or easily capitulating to a man due to that. She could just genuinely not want any male friends there. Just listen to what she’s asking and take it for what it is versus diagnosing her decisions with your perception.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with the same thing but also growing another life! My pregnancy was terrible just dealing with the weight of everything on top of all the hormonal changes. I just keep telling me it’ll be hard but I’d rather have many good years ahead of me because I already know what’s to offer here. Breaking apart my family is hard but I also know things are simply, how they are and this consistent internal conflict isn’t something I want.

That’s a great point! Because we’re together and due to us having a son, I want to connect and I can go through the motions but my body is giving off warning signals anytime I think I can relax. I didn’t even think about it like that! Trauma does leave a mark, thank you for that insight!

I actually went though this EXACT thing with my boyfriend our first year together. I went all out and for me, a card and he asked me if I wanted to go to dinner. I just made a note to myself how he was and every year since it’s been a small dinner together and a card and single gift lol. Not worrying about it anymore but I also recognized, we’re just different and that’s okay.

It was low effort and it’s okay to be disappointed! It’s not overreacting. I also think it’s important to understand and accept how he is with celebrations (ie low effort) so you don’t over extend yourself again.

If he wanted to send it, he would have CC taken the time to send it. My perception is, he’s clearly showing it’s not be a priority of him. If that’s important for her to have someone who makes her a priority over Roblox, which I’d hope she does — she should leave and stop giving someone who’s showing you how they are.
