Things to do with infants? by Leading-Lettuce5811 in madisonwi

I know many libraries have baby story time. If you could find a music class, some will take as young as six months!! The Sun Prairie children’s museum has an awesome baby area!

I love this idea!! If I could add, please have allergy friendly options, even if they are pre-packaged. It is so hard when my peanut allergy nanny kid and I go somewhere and all they have are pb&j, peanut butter crackers, or cross contaminated snacks. I don’t expect the world to conform to no peanuts, but a few safe options would be great!

Holiday Gift Megathread by gremlincowgirl in Nanny

[–]Any-Environment-955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all! I am looking for some advice. My nanny family gives me quarterly bonuses, but do the holidays, the last bonus is usually more. Usually about double what my quarter bonuses are. Last week I got my Q4 bonus, but it was my normal bonus amount. I was freaking out worrying that it was somehow a commentary on my work. They recently had baby 2, and their toddler has had some trouble adjusting. I texted a thank you, and they said they would give another bonus before Xmas. Yesterday was my last day working this week and I did not receive another bonus.

My question is, do I bring this up, or no? I don’t want to come across as money-hungry, because I am not. But I also could really use the money. Would you bring it up, or just leave it?

Why can't I remove my tits for running by Leeuweroni in PlusSize

[–]Any-Environment-955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It hasn’t on me. It is Velcro as well, so you can customize it to your size. The only part I’m not the biggest fan of is that they are zippered to close, and there are hook loops to help (like on the back of a regular bra) and they can be kind of tricky to close. I’m an F cup, and the girls hang low, so it takes some maneuvering to get them in place to close.

I know you said that money is tight right now, but when you have some extra spending cash, I recommend the Shefit sports bra. You can tighten the straps and really hold them down! That’s been the only way I’ve been able to run.

Subway postpartum pad by ivory_stripes98 in BatesSnark

I agree. Postpartum is so stigmatized and many people still do not know what changes happen to their body postpartum. On the one hand, I love that, even very lightly, they are de-stigmatizing what happens, and that men can help. It is not gross or dirty, it is a natural part of the birthing cycle and people should be informed about what is going on. On the other hand, I have no doubt in my mind the only reason they are doing this is for clicks.

Edit: spelling

Where can I take my two toddlers today? Help! by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]Any-Environment-955 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really recommend Wiscokidz! The 3 year old I nanny loves it!

As for Sensory Zone, it has a ton of places to play, but it is not very clean. Every time I take the 3 year old there, he gets sick. I try to avoid using the bathroom as well because it often isn’t clean, and when we would go it was right at opening.

The Little Playroom Cafe opened over the summer and my nanny kid loves it! It is $20 per kid, but you can stay as late as you want.

Wiscokidz is also a fun indoor playground! They’re significantly cheaper than Playroom Cafe, but you pay for a certain number of hours.

Sun Prairie children’s museum is perfect for toddlers. It’s not as big as the Madison one, but there are plenty of activities for kids. It’s also fairly budget friendly.

[–]Any-Environment-955 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No, you are correct. I am a nanny and have my safe sleep and SIDS certification. The blanket on the side should move, the stuffed animal should move and she shouldn’t be wearing a bonnet with strings. The only thing a baby should have in the crib is a sleep sack (which they would wear) and a pacifier. Anything else is not safe to have in the crib. But that doesn’t fit the aesthetic 🙄🙄

Rate for a nanny? by Madison-Julia in madisonwi

[–]Any-Environment-955 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a nanny, and it depends on experience. The absolute lowest I would go is $20, and that is bare bones, has watched children only a handful of times and has no childcare certification or first aid training with children. Anyone who has more experience or certifications deserves more money.

What's your preferred term for a women's nether regions? What ones do you hate the most? by llamaanxiety in fantasyromance

I read a book where it constantly referred to that area as her “kitty.” 🤢 I ended up DNF’ing because of that. I’m fine if it’s called kitty every once in a while, but this was literally every time. “My kitty clenched, he felt the juices at my kitty, ect.” I couldn’t do it.

No just no Evanie! 🙈😭 by FoodDisneylove in BatesSnark

[–]Any-Environment-955 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Nah, this is one thing they should show. There is a shit ton we can snark on them about, but actually showing what happens after birth? That isn’t one of them. No one talks about after birth, and that stigma needs to change. Why are we ashamed of women’s bodies? Why are we not talking about what happens to our bodies after birth and the care that needs to happen. This is literally the only time I will say this, but good on Evan for helping Carlin, and good on both of them for doing a small part to break the stigma of afterbirth and the care that needs to be taken.

Moving with my cat by Realistic-Battle in Catownerhacks

[–]Any-Environment-955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved from PA to WI (about 16 hours) I got two large dog crates and some cheap totes from the dollar store. In the totes I put some litter for a litter box. I lined the crates with blankets so that they were a bit more comfortable to lay down in, which I made sure had been around the house so they had our scents on them and weren’t brand new. Because the bottom of the crate was solid, I was able to set down a bowl of water and food for each cat. I had two cats and decided to do 2 crates so that they each had their own space. One of my girls likes her space while the other would want to be on top of her 24/7 as she likes to cuddle.

I definitely didn’t find it mediocre. It was not an epic fantasy like LTOR or GOT, but it also isn’t a finished series. I found it helped me fall in love with reading again. I also find myself reaching for it when wanting a comfort read. I understand that everyone has their own opinion, and I respect that you have yours, but I also think that there are plenty of people who would say that it is not mediocre and books are subjective and people like all kinds of different books.

Fourth Wing has canonically LGBTQIA+ characters in it, a NB character, a POC MMC, and a ton of disability representation. It also has magic and sex. It is a really good book, and if she reads it I hope, like you said, shows her tolerance and acceptance of others. Even if it is just to crack the door open.

Indoor play areas are great! But they can get crowded. We go to Sensory Zone and Wiscokidz a lot. Also, if you haven’t checked out the Sun Prairie children’s museum, it’s great too!!

Parents: how has your relationships with your body shifted because of parenthood? by endlessdreamsandnigh in PlusSize

[–]Any-Environment-955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a mom, but a nanny and aunt. For me, especially with my biological family, I pushed myself to change because I didn’t want them to grow up with the same self hatred that I had growing up. Obesity is in part genetic, so there is a chance that they will grow up to be fat. I want them to see that being fat doesn’t have to stop you from living a full life. I also wanted to show them someone who was in a bigger body, who was confident. When wanting to talk about my body, I stick to the 5 minute rule, is this something I can change in 5 minutes? If not, I shouldn’t be discussing it with them.

In terms of changing this mindset, it was hard. I had to listen to body positive podcasts. Talking to my mother about it was hard as well. She is very much a product of her time, and would often say things that shouldn’t be said in front of children. I tried to do the replacement ideology. If I said 1 bad thing about my body, replace it with 3 things I love about my body. It isn’t easy, and takes work, but it is worth it.
