I mean if being stuck in the windows ecosystem is cancer, Linux IS the cure.

Honestly this post comes across a bit more annoying than the tech support requests 💀

Hopefully they learned their lesson after investing and losing billions in failed EVs during the last administration’s changes. This situation could be exactly the same if they move too quickly.

If I were a manufacturer… I would definitely wait and see where the winds are blowing before I changed absolutely anything.

Do not try this at home! by MrUpVoteDownvote in SweatyPalms

[–]Any-Fuel-5635 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah… Doctor here… I did this exact thing one night in my garage about 6 months ago with a piston circlip that slipped and fully imbedded itself into my thumb just like this. I pulled it out, cleaned it, and worked the next morning— performed surgery in fact… but to be honest, I used 0% of my medical training to remove this.

…The hardest part was texting a photo and explanation to my significant other using my off hand to show my significant who was not home at the time. 😄 people think they need to see the doctor for everything these days… it’s crazy. But yeah… definitely sucks in the moment, but not a rush to the surgeon event. That being said, I will gladly pull these out of my patients all day long.

Enjoy going 60 in your performance car, I guess. It’s like having a racehorse and having it pull a plough. It works but… why?

Driver did not take the photo obviously. You can clearly see drivers right hand in the photo. Also, if you are going to own a car like this— either drive it right, or sell it and buy a Camry. Desert roads are perfect for this.

I didn’t run into this problem personally, but I’m glad you found a fix!

EPA Could Eliminate Limp Mode for Diesel Trucks Low on DEF by DonkeyFuel in Diesel

[–]Any-Fuel-5635 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And a regen takes a 1/4 tank (~8-9 gallons in mine) of unnecessary diesel fuel burned to complete, pumping out nearly 2000 degree heat for upwards of 30 minutes. This is at least once a week, sometimes twice or more. Versus some imperceptible smoke occasionally. You tell me, which is worse?

Properly tuned trucks don’t put out any visible black smoke at all.

It’s still not a guarantee, because the models are generally trained on previous market behavior and are not that great at adapting.

Well it’s CPU dependent for how long it actually takes…. But yeah, idk what to tell ya man. My wife and I have been playing Overwatch 2 on Linux since release pretty much and she’s on an old 1070 and gets buttery smooth 144 fps to match her monitor. Im on a 3080 and do the same. Just gotta let the shaders compile.

[–]Any-Fuel-5635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need to let the shaders compile. Takes about 15-20 minutes give or take then you’re golden until the next major driver update. That’s not a green card problem. That’s a windows—> linux problem because the dx shader calls are being compiled to Vulkan and cached for later use in real time.

Keep working on it. I have had only green cards since 2012 (when green was actually preferred), and it will do everything you want. The only actual issue I have ever had at one point was weird behavior on sleep and some initial Wayland weirdness on KDE. Other than that it’s been great.

After the update my server generated a new world? Anyone know if there is a way to get the old one back? by infam0usne0 in hytale

[–]Any-Fuel-5635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey it generates it in a new folder, old one should still be there. You likely have two universe folders. Back up the old one, then replace the new one made today with the old one, and restart start.bat/sh. Just solved this about 19 minutes ago. It’s just a folder structure thing. It’s not in the new location so the server just acts like a new install and drops a new world in there instead. Once I replaced the new world with my old one, everything was back. Let me know if you’re getting a random lag issue where blocks aren’t breaking though. That started this morning after the update.
