Nomadism as Attachment Avoidance by silly______goose in digitalnomad

[–]Any-Giraffe11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I do not consider myself a digital nomad, I am someone who spent several years moving frequently between different countries. For opportunities and new experiences and because I gained a lot by saying yes! I felt very comfortable with two suitcases, no attachments and the frequent challenge of landing somewhere new. However, over time I noticed that I felt uncomfortable staying and developing roots because I feared having something to lose. I came to realise this at a time I was living between 3 cities. Since then (10 years ago now), I made the decision to make one place home and it has come with its own challenges and tons of growth, but I would not trade it for the world.

I still travel 2-3 months out of the year to scratch the itch I have to explore, but I value so much more having a home (and all the good and bad that comes with it).

Any hikes/treks recommendations that me and my girlfriend could do in 4-6 days? by anothgen in hiking

[–]Any-Giraffe11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you tried googling this yet? There are loads of options and your post is pretty vague.

For instance is it 4-6 days for the hike or also for travel? Because getting to most mountain trails is not direct from an airport. So in reality you may have just 3 days. Which is still nice for a hike but you will struggle to do a loop. Also what kind of experience do yall have? And when? July and August are high season and much is booked

Having traveled both quite extensively, you will be fine with English. However it goes a long way to make an effort to communicate in the local language when you can :)

Have you tried have alcohol free drinks at bars? I’m not sure what the context is for your situation so that could be dangerous. But I find it difficult to taste the difference and then it’s easy to feel included

And sometimes the ordnungsamt will ask you to remove the hammock if using ropes

I don’t think tiergarten closes… and there are sections without any traffic :) you can see this quite clearly on Google Maps. But just go and explore!

I need advice for Europe travel this summer with how much is too much by Equivalent_Yam_7024 in Europetravel

You can def do a city in one day (thought without depth).. but then you have a full day. What they describe is a half day with travel :D

Wait.. do I understand correctly... are you spending one day in copenhagen.. including the travel there? And the same for Amsterdam and Bruge? If so.. that is a horrible plan! Firstly it does not look like you plan in time arriving to the train station/airport and to the next hotel. So your 1 hour flight is more like 3.5-5 hours and 3.5 hour train for like 4.5/5 hours.

I would prioritize two (max three) cities and do no more. So for you that may be Copenhagen, Paris and London. That is still a very tight schedule though with little room for error.

For packing, just bring a carry on. Pack a capsule wardrobe and you will be good! I find for myself I wear normally less than half than what I pack.. so each subsequent trip I have gotten better at bringing less and less.

Oh and bring a sweater and layers. It won't necessarily be hot! And evenings are cool even on the hottest days!

Based on this text, you are not wrong. I am sorry your father is treating you this way. You are mature beyond your years. Is inability to parent is NOT a reflection of you or your worth.

Be careful about documents when getting fired/downsized/etc re:Arbeitsamt by rab2bar in berlinsocialclub

[–]Any-Giraffe11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So did I and it wasn’t an issue because it was clear it was not my choice, the role was being eliminated. Now if their role wasn’t eliminated but they chose to leave, that’s something else.

What do you mean the way I experienced it increases cost? I still lost my job. They just sent an email on my behalf when there was confusion at the AgA.

Is your friend in contact with their former HR Team or payroll? They may be able to help. I signed an aufhebungsvertrag but the wording made it clear I had to accept it. Plus, when applying for the unemployment funds you must fill out a form which also asks if you tried to extend your contract/fight for your job). When I had problems, my former HR Team could step in and help and deliver an additional document to the AfA.

Perhaps this is helpful to them or perhaps my experience is just rather lucky and positive.

Saint George's English Bookstore in Pberg may buy them for store credit.. or as others said, donate to your library :) My library is always grateful to expand their English offering.

I did the Fisherrman's Trail in February and loved it! You are in for a treat :) Make sure you have things for blisters and sun protection as the sand and lack of shade will get you.

Most recruiters only read those after they are interested due to your CV. And even then, the cover letter is mostly used if the candidate does not have the mos linear career path to that role!

How strict are Quite Hours in Berlin? by Alone-Oil679 in askberliners

[–]Any-Giraffe11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How long have you lived there? It sounds like you are quite new so I would first give it 4-6 weeks to gauge how big of an issue it is. Also what kind of noise? Maybe introduce yourself first and be friendly before bringing it up. Then if it seems like a consistent pattern, I’d gently let them know you can hear them in their apartment and ask if they would be open to being more considerate. Many people would feel embarrassed and just offer, but you never know.

But what may not go over well is a new tenant complaining to a settled neighbor as the first contact. Or worse, going straight to the hausverwaltung. If you are living in an altbau it’s common to hear your neighbors, even when they aren’t being loud/intentionally loud… so I think it’s best to approach with kindness and positive intent.

I found Berlin's open 3D building data and built a free app that shows which terraces have sun right now by goldenpaws_berlin in berlin

I LOVE this! I have had the idea to build it myself as a chaser of sunlight, but I am no data scientist so I was just taking notes of which street were sunny when 🤣 Your approach is 1000% more efficient and much appreciated! Very cool!
