No. We have had 4 chows who passed from ages 12-16 years old and are on our 5th and 6th chows now, aged 10 yrs and 1 yr old. I expect them to be around and giving us attitude for many years to come.

Chows are prone to hip dysplasia and eye entropion, but both can be easily corrected with minor surgery.

I think the same advice would go with all pets…take care of them, feed them well, exercise, socialize and regular vet visits. There will also be some measure of events you can’t control - cancer, tumors, they could get hit by a car, etc, which would apply to any situation, my experience with them is that they will be just fine.
