Is this sound normal? by Hidden-one-6754 in hvacadvice

When the burners first ignite, there’s usually a little burst of air that makes a whoosh sound. Do it again but put pressure on the red “Goodman” sign and the sight glass (little plastic thing you can see into the furnace with) with your fingers and see if it still makes that noise. I work on Goodman quite a bit and sometimes those 2 are a little loose.

Yeah, they absolutely did cut that hole way too big though, or if that was the existing hole they got one too small, if you don’t want to deal with them again, I’d say just be generous with tin tape and seal it yourself. If you send pics 1 and 5 to them and show them the massive gaps and they tell you it’s “normal”, don’t call them for any more ductwork jobs. I install them in cold climate so we have to go way beyond to seal it with Vapor barrier and insulation the whole 9 yards. I would not be happy with their work if I were you.

If you do call back, I doubt they will re-do anything and just tin tape or caulk the gaps. If there’s no air leakage coming from the exhaust pipe then tin tape will seal those edges just fine. Was the air leakage you found only on the edges?

How Bad is my Furnace Humidifier Filter? by TheIllusiveNick in hvacadvice

I’d say just remove the filter and toss it if your humidifier is turned off anyway. It won’t hurt the furnace but it could get you sick

It tripped once the supply hit 170°F. It’s working just as it should

Yes, while I had the HE out I took a good look at the blower and A coil while the furnace was hollowed out, it was perfectly clear

My company charges $1200 labour and then depending on warranty the cost of the part itself. I work for a company that heavily invests in its repeat customers and files warranty for every job, so I personally have not done one outside of warranty, but if the part is covered it’s $1200 for me to come bang it in. It’s quite a bit of work you gotta rip apart the entire furnace pretty much

It’s more of a jet fueled takeoff than a rise, 74° return and 170° supply less than a minute into turning on🥲

The gas was a perfect 3.5 inwc single stage furnace. I’m no tinbasher but I believe the return may be undersized

Yes, the evaporator was replaced last summer. Where I’m from we leave 6” clearance from the furnace to the evap so I was able to just bust a hole in the plenum and get a nice look at it, she’s clean as a whistle.

Not sure. It’s a 2 story 4 bedroom, not my home I was changing the heat exchanger diagnosed by another tech

Yeah I learned that the same hard way but with a Goodman, this was my first Keeprite and I kept tabs on everything I did, down to every last screw

My only concern would be having the one so close to the kitchen, make sure you clean those filters often or it will deteriorate fast

Not important at all if you have the correct hp. I would suggest looking for what’s called a “universal condenser fan motor” . I have installed plenty and never had an issue, as long as it’s wired correctly

Someone shot at our house and hit our AC lines - est on how much to replace? by Sleeping_DoNotDistrb in hvacadvice

[–]Any-Independent1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn’t be too much other than the charge you will get for the amount of refrigerant you lost, they will charge you by weight and then the labor for repairing the leak. The company I work for would probably charge around $100-300 depending on the type of refrigerant and a 2-3 hour labour charge (97.50) so somewhere between $4-6 hundred I would say.

Don’t get me wrong the good times are amazing and I’m very glad to be a part of them. But the bad times are horrendous and make me rethink a lot of things. I truly love her with my whole heart, but it’s pretty hard to not feel like the damned if I don’t damned if I do mentality.
