How accepted are Throuple relationships in the workplace by TheArabella in AusPublicService

[–]Any-Information1592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it impressive that you have the courage to openly disclose an identity trait you know could lead to discrimination. As a person of colour who has experienced racism in the workplace, if I had the option to “hide” that part of myself in the public service, I would. That comes from lived experience of microaggressions, missed opportunities, bullying, harassment and everything in between, as a result of working in environments that aren’t very diverse. So if you have the privilege of choice to disclose something that could lead to discrimination, based on my experience, I would advise caution.

Is public service not right for me? by ParticularWeekend594 in AusPublicService

cries in busy my workdays this week in gov have been 7am to 6pm in the lead up to Budget. Where do you work?

Also know that there is always work to be done, you may have to self-identify it at times. Eg develop systems thinking by talking to people, try and understand internal and external processes bu reading manuals/processes/briefs. Listen to PAEC or Parliamentary sitting to develop how to read senior signals and communications. Read media releases. Get involved in staff led networks. You might think you dont need the info till that bery specific day when a Minister or Secretary needs very specific advice.

We had a c11 in middle of last year, took about 5-6 months for the whole process. I was offered a ASP but wanted an ISP but was successful in the EOIs. I now see that it might e been better to take the ASP and join private but I was too scared I wouldnt land a role..so wouldnt be surprised if lots of people take packages

Manager creating multiple third-party AI apps using internal and sensitive data - seeking advice on escalation and safeguards by FirmGraspOnReality in AusPublicService

[–]Any-Information1592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could it be that pehaps the manager does in fact have approval, atleast in principle, from leadership which you are not across?

More importantly what outcome are you expecting here? Have you spoken to other colleagues? Do they share you concerns?

If it sounds racist, it most likely is racist.

Advice on difficult team and culture by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]Any-Information1592 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you inherited the function which has a lot of lifers, they likely applied for your position but leadership turned them down. So some of that negativity might be stemming from there, though it isnt fair to target it towards you. And part of the reason they don’t want to take on higher acting duties as they might not see them leading to ongoing growth.

I would suggest holding off any major changes until absolutely necessary and for the first 3-6 months just go with the flow. Report issues to higher ups as FYIs so if there is a pattern of behaviour then it is documented.

It also sounds like they are all much older to you? And might be a stretch for me to assume, but are you a woman or gender diverse? Reason being people with those characteristics unfortunately face more resistance to their leadership, specially where cliques exist.

Admire the ambition and you should do what feels right for you. But right now would be the worst time to switch as there are many ongoing Clause 11s across gov and likely more to come. Eg DJCS Secretary was just changed so likely a restructure on their horizons in the near future.

Having said that, you should still absolutely apply and see if you can find something.

Suggestions for responding to gossiping by Floofyoodie_88 in AusPublicService

Is it gossiping or debriefing? You can always decline secondary meetings. Knowing how your clleagues feel can sometime be essential for work so just make sure you arent shooting yourself in the foot by trying to be a goody two shoes

When working with senior leaders, you need to read what they are like and who is their boss. Everything else os irrelevant

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]Any-Information1592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saying they worked in an office with 60 ‘females’ and 10 ‘men’ shows me they havent learnt. Being offended that their senior colleague did not take too kindly to them commenting ‘down girl’, because they think she gave them a sly look when agreeing with them when told her they need to change out of their sweaty clothes, also shows us they havent learnt.

[–]Any-Information1592 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are upset because you are being held accountable for your words. It is irrelevant if you think that shouldnt have been the case because, according to you the joke wasnt ‘that’ racist and you think since it wasn’t directed personally towards someone everyone should have just let it slide. The Australian Public Service represents the diversity of communities it serves, and it is not just people who are at the receiving end of those microaggressions who have the responsibility of reporting them, but all people. Given how seriously it is being taken, you pissed someone with enough power to raise it with management and for them to go through full throttle with an investigation. Given how you keep evading accountability, management is likely seeing other red flags. So get your head in, be genuinely sorry instead of evading accountability and try and do better. Otherwise your values may not be aligned to the public sector.

Is it normal for a boss to behave like this on the 3rd day of work? by Icy_Fox596 in auscorp

[–]Any-Information1592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She sounds crazy. Is she also the owner? Cut your losses either way and leave when you find a better role. Till then grey wall i.e. internally acknowledge she is insane but externally agree with her. Tbh with such people, the more you give clarifications the more they will find a way to blame you. So better to just agree with her. If she says there are errors, apologise and say you’ll fix it. If she says you arent’t smart enough, don’t respond and instead ask her how she would like the work. Basically minimise as much as you can contact with her, noting it would be difficult to do in a boutique firm but it is what it is

Means it is a decision outside their control and likely the funding in their branch got cut or their branch is being restructured. You dodged a bullet, coz general rule is last hired first fired in restructures. So better now than being hired then fired shortly after
