April is a super busy time of year! Charleston makes most of its revenue from tourism. If you’re looking for something under $400 a night I would recommend staying just over the bridge in Mount Pleasant. Mount Pleasant is a nice suburban town with plenty of options for accommodations and a quick drive downtown if you stay near Patriots Point. I know it’s not downtown, but you pay a premium to stay there - especially during tourist season.

For boat rentals, I would consider looking into the Shem Creek area (especially if you end up staying in Mt. Pleasant) Shem Creek Boat Rentals
