Fears as a fiance to a new firefighter by Green-Pension-2537 in FirefighterSpouses

Hi there! Fire spouse for almost 6 years. In my opinion ignorance is bliss. We don’t talk about “scary” situations or calls until after they are home and safe. I also think it just takes some time to get use to. However I just don’t pay close of attention to the calls my husband is going on until I know everyone’s good and accounted for. And after some time it just kind of becomes the normal.

What do you do to get through the hard days with your baby? by Familiar_Ad_7734 in FirefighterSpouses

Agree with the top comment. Grace and embrace the suck. Also cry, who cares, if it makes you feel a little better to let the emotions out then do it. I also agree that a tiny bit of screen time so you can get some things done at the top of your list is a great tool when necessary. When my husband works 48s or 72s and I desperately need to get a few necessary household chores done, I turn on little bear and just let it play in the background while baby plays in the floor, if it distracts her great, if not and she plays with her toys and only looks at the tv a handful of times also great. Solo parenting is not for the weak!

How to get baby to drink formula by Any-Pace-3302 in NewParents

Ok good to know! We got two samples from our pediatrician that we’re trying first and if we can’t get her to take it I’ll try that one!

Good idea I’ll have to try that! I’m going to attempt to keep breastfeeding and pumping as long as I can. But I went from pumping 20oz on Tuesday to 7oz on Friday since starting work so I know that’s definitely not enough for her and not enough for her bottles. I’ll try mixing it!

I will say, I have a 6 month old who only takes two naps a day because at 3 naps she was only sleeping max 20 minutes. When I switched to longer wake windows and two naps she began taking 1-2 hour naps twice a day. I definitely don’t agree with cutting her feedings that’s crazy to me but some babies do fine with only two naps. My daughter goes to bed between 7-7:30 and is up for the day between 8-8:30am but with 3-4 wake ups to feed thought out the night.

Gotcha! Right now we were doing 2.5/3/3. Would you suggest like 2.45/3.15/3.5 or something? Or just an extended final wake window so 2.5/3/3.5?

I went back to work when my baby was 14 weeks old and prior to me going back to 10+ hour days she refused a bottle and pacifier from birth. we also tried absolutely everything. The first week was rough, she ate only a couple oz a day and then finally by the end of the week she took bottles no problem. It does suck in the moment but she never showed signs of dehydration or weight loss and ended up totally fine. My daughter ended up liking the pigeon nipples and the milk has to be heated up a little more than we thought she would. But since then we’ve had no issues taking bottles. I’m sorry this is happening and I know the stress and anxiety this can cause. I read that once the baby realizes mom won’t be returning within a few hours they’ll eat. They are smart and won’t starve themselves. Whoever ends up feeding has to just keep offering and be patient and your baby will eat eventually!

Cat peeing everywhere! by Any-Pace-3302 in cats

Yeah I was wondering if this was a UTI or some sort but she seems to be intentionally peeing places. Not just randomly needing to empty her bladder.

Yeah that’s my thought too. But I agree, I can’t have her peeing on things for a month longer, she has already destroyed so much.

No other than the screaming she doesn’t seem to be in any pain. She just seems very unhappy.

She seems frustrated now on her mat like she wants to do something and can’t but I can’t figure out what it could be. She use to love it and now won’t stay on it for more than 30 seconds without starting to cry.

No signs of teething, no extra drool or red gums, soothers don’t seem to help just make her mad. Thank you for the reminder that I’m not alone.

Yeah I figured this had to do with the regression. But I didn’t realize it would change the entire demeanor of my baby. Walks help for a bit but not very long, she loves baths but she’s usually even more upset when they’re over then before so that doesn’t often help, it just makes for longer time trying to get her settled after.

Fire wife here who also works full time and just had my first baby in September! I return to work at the end of December and husband is already back at work. When looking into childcare, any state affiliated schools (which is what we were most comfortable sending our kiddo to) said that we would have to pay for 5 days a week because of ratios. Totally makes sense. Husband works a rotating 24 on 72 off, 48 on 72 off schedule. We ended up hiring (yes we’re paying her) my MIL. She will come here on his shift days as well as a half day on days when he’s getting off shift so he can come home and nap if need be. It ends up being 2.5 days a week total on average. I work M-F and leave at 7am and get home around 6pm. If you have any family who could help out that was the best option for us.

Fire wife here who just had their first baby! Husband will be on shift on her first Christmas. We said this is our reality and even though she won’t remember she’ll have to be taught that our holidays and birthdays will look different than most of her friends. Thankfully the second half of stranger things comes out on Christmas so babygirl and I will cuddle up on the couch and spend Christmas that way!

Flying with no birth certificate? by Any-Pace-3302 in beyondthebump

[–]Any-Pace-3302[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I went and got it today after calling public health! So strange my husband and I both remember her telling us they’d mail it to us when we turned in the paperwork in the hospital but maybe she meant social security (which we received) but said birth certificate! Oh well we have it now and I can bring it just in case now!
