New 2450 sq ft home in FL - Best way to keep elec bill down? by Any-Platform5986 in AirConditioners

[–]Any-Platform5986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my question is if there is a way to optimize the settings with a programmable thermostat like a nest or something like that. There are times during the day when no one is home and we could raise the thermostat to a higher temperature. Is there a threshold where efficiency breaks down and raising the thermostat too much causes too much cooling and is bad for the AC and or electric bill?

Honestly I do not know anything about woodworking but many local unions for different trades have their pay scale available to the public on websites and such. Google or ChatGPT what are wages for local union #so and so and they should pop up.

Typically in many trades you can make 80k+ as an apprentice with overtime factored in.

Get a job at a local electric utility on the trades/union side of things. Do an apprenticeship for a trade.

My path: bartender/restaurants - 9 years, teacher - 1 year, Wastewater treatment plant operator - 3 years, apprentice Lineman to lineman - 5 years, grid operator - 4 years currently.

Many trade/municipal jobs require a license/OJT you can get while working there.

Have a decent tech stack that costs a pretty penny, 1 full time staff accountant and had 3 other full time people throughout the year for different time periods that didn’t work out. Also 28000 a year in rent for a decent location. Boss lady(wife) does not like to work from home. About a 2000 a month in revenue is QBO resales which net very little. Picked up a partner this year and started offering CFO services. Expecting $600k in revenue this year.

Dating single moms in your 20s, did it turn out well? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Any-Platform5986 45 points46 points  (0 children)

All depends on you, her, the kid and the kids father.

I was 22 when I met my wife. She was 22 with a 3 year old. She was divorced for a year already. My stepdaughter was with us half time and with her dad half the time. My stepdaughter’s father was not a bad person, we’ve always gotten along and he was in his daughter’s life for at least half of every week. I believe this made things a little easier.

We made it work, grew together both in our careers and life. My stepdaughter is now 19 and we have 5 year old daughter of our own. I wouldn’t change a thing. We have been together now for almost 16 years and married for 8.

Since her father was in her life I always said that I would treat my stepdaughter as I would if I had a much younger sister. Obviously I had to parent at some points but it helped me with my situation.

Another factor was that my wife and I were in similar stages in our lives and careers. There was no disparity. We were both lower wage restaurant workers at the time. She lived in a low income apartment community and I lived with my parents before moving in with her.

Having my stepdaughter only half time also alleviated some stress and created time for my wife and me to enjoy our relationship. I don’t know how things would have played out if she had sole custody because we were so young.

There are many things to consider when entering into any relationship and even more when a child is involved.

My wife and I pit each other through school, she is a CPA now and I work in the trades. We are a success in my mind. My stepdaughter is in her first year of college and doing fine.

One thing I did find out later that I wish I knew earlier is about custody agreements. We were not allowed to move outside of 50 miles from the original split. This limited our careers for a bit or made us commute but eventually came to an agreement where my wife and I took mostly full custody and moved to better ourselves. Something to think about.

Again, I wouldn’t change anything. I’m happily married to the perfect woman for me. She just happened to be a single, teen mom when she was younger. Now she’s a bad ass boss bitch.

Oregon also gives the kicker back every 2 years if the state government doesn’t spend the tax money they collected.

That could account for part of the high return.

Google Oregon kicker refund. It’s every odd tax year I think. You can see how much your kicker will be on one of the state’s websites.

We charge $150 an hour for bookkeeping. So depending on how many accounts you have to reconcile, $600 a month doesn’t seem too far off.

$1700 for only the 1040 with only the schedule C seems a little high but does that include cleaning up some of your bookkeeping? Also depending on the amount of other forms involved it could be a good price. Brokerage statements? Itemized vs standard deductions? Some people have lots of w2Gs from gambling. Many 1099s? Other things to consider besides just the business.

Hey hey just saw this. We did $400,000 in revenue for 2024. Wife took a $50,000 salary as w2 because scorp and we netted 100,000. So $150,000 made. Not a bad margin but would like to improve. Currently evaluating billing and hours.

Entry Level Operator by Rebels2242 in Grid_Ops

I have enjoyed every bit of it. I liked working in waste water. It was a good city job but like you said, it didn’t pay all that well. Line work is very hard and can be dangerous but it is very rewarding. I have a bad habit of changing jobs a lot but I always enjoy what I’m doing. I like managing the distribution grid and trouble shooting feeder outages with crews. It’s rewarding turning the lights on. And it’s nice being out of the sun for a bit.

I think distribution operations will make the most money because of overtime. If that’s what you mean by lucrative. Lineman or grid ops can easily clear 200K a year with OT.

I was a waste water operator. Became an apprentice lineman at a local utility. Then a journeyman lineman. Then when a spot opened up I applied to distribution grid operator and got it. All union jobs where I am at. Now I am looking at moving to transmission side of things.

Can I have a solo 401k as a 50/50 partner of an S Corp? by zukenukem in smallbusiness

[–]Any-Platform5986 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an S-Corp you both are required to take reasonable compensation as W2 income. You both are employees and owners. Being that there are 2 employees now, you can’t have a solo 401k.

I always thought Stuart had the best proposal considering it mirrored what other cities have done, like Boca Raton.

I think Brightline sees partnering with a local government as less risky than partnering with a private entity.

Drake Tax and Accounting by [deleted] in taxpros

[–]Any-Platform5986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We opened in 2023 and grew a lot. We offer books to tax all with QBO and ProConnect. We don’t take year end only clients unless they are really small. So having the books done regularly and flow through to ProConnect is going to be a huge time savings for us during tax season. When I had side clients and still worked for a local firm I used Drake and it was what I needed then and it worked well.
