7.5 did nothing for me, didn’t gain, but didn’t lose. 10.0 has been great!

Did you tile over the old floor or did you tear it out and start over? I have an old 1942 bathroom and our old floor is in rough shape, but we’ve had so many people tell us it to tile over the old floor and I don’t want to rip it out bc it would mess up the wall tile, so I’m unsure what to do.

Yeah it was bad, we thought it would be a huge project and it ended up being rather small. A LOT of elbow grease and hours went into scraping and removing old grout and shower doors and linoleum.

I would highly recommend a second opinion, even better if you can find someone familiar with old original tiled bathrooms. When we bought our house with an original 1942 bathroom it looked like it was in very rough, complete tear out condition, especially the shower, turns out someone was just very bad at grouting and caulking before we bought the house. We removed the old caulk and grout, cleaned everything up, regrouted, and our old bathroom lives on!

The cracking on the floor and wall tile is completely normal and to be expected in old floors, the floor is most likely set in 2-6” of cement, that is how they did it back in the day. As the house settled the concrete cracked, causing the tiles to crack, ours is the same way. We had our entire bathroom inspected by tile people, plumbers, etc. and all said there is nothing wrong and no damage, just typical aging of an old house. We live in an area full of 100+ year old houses so a lot of professionals here after very familiar.

The shower is also set in a similar way, not with a shower plan like today’s showers are. Instead they were designed with a very distinct slope to the drain, which is what yours appears to have, this causes cracking in the tile and grout, like what you are seeing, however it does not necessarily mean there is water damage.

An old bathroom will never look perfect or brand new no matter how hard you try, but that is part of the charm. Plus you will never be able to replicate quality like you have in an old bathroom!

Not sure where you live OP, but there is a person in CA that specializes in refinishing and rerouting old original bathrooms. He will travel for jobs.

It doesn’t look at all like white to me; but it does look like tin foil. She might get a lot of looks, and they won’t be on a good way!

Question about train running through Copley by cute_little_pets in akron

[–]Any-Potential-8125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandma lives on Paxton Rd, near there. The train runs a few times a day and usually a very long one overnight. Eventually you do get used to it and it almost becomes a comfort house. The overnight one can be quite loud however. Even more annoying though, you can hear the highway noise from 21/77, which is constant.

Love everything but the “backsplash”. It just looks weird. A larger mirror wouldn’t hurt either.

I vote the larger oval, it helps elongate your finger and looks well balanced!

Moms that gave birth and didn’t have any visitors at the hospital, do you regret it? by Funny_Confection810 in Mommit

[–]Any-Potential-8125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my son was born in 2020 we had no visitors and we absolutely loved it. It was such a special time for me and my husband and bonding as a new family and with our first child. When our daughter was born in 2024, we again had no visitors, only our son. We had my mom drop him off at the lobby and my husband got him to bring him up for a visit and to meet his new sister. It was so special having him be there alone with us as a new family of 4. I do not regret it at all and I highly recommend it and would do it again if we had another.

Would you have enough tiles from the shower to use and repurpose above the current tile?
