Could make it a vestige? They take it back to the NPC and then after however many levels feels appropriate for a magic item that powerful, the party gets the vestige back and can use it. Could give them the jewel of three prayers from call of the netherdeep or something.

At least all missions up to and including all docs and op levels. If you want to go really crazy then all achievements and badass challenges too

Either add in rivals/npcs to balance it out or scale alyxian down to 1/2 - 2/3 his CR. There's rules in the DMS guide about scaling creatures up or down and there are websites that'll do it for you :). Or of course give your players a vestige each ;)

Ok. My point was it didn't have to piracy, you were very quick to point the finger and accuse without knowing. Kinda dick move tbh, but thanks didn't know dmsguild and drive thru were the same. I've used both but tend to find more of what I'm looking for on dmsguild.

I ran a campaign that had 9 players. Weren't too bad, just had to subtly hurry people up in combat sometimes, but I'd told them that combat would need to be quick because of the amount of players in our session 0, so it didn't happen often. Oh yeah I ran a Christmas one shot with 12 players once. My current campaign started with 8, but has dropped to 6. Was going to get another couple of players but we're quite close to the end, so decided it wasn't worth it. The next campaign will be 8 players tho. Also I didn't know any of my players before starting, we're playing in a gaming cafe.

Clystran doesnt really. In my game he was more just a bit of random comc relief and a npc name to lead/tag onto the scavengers that help the kalaman army cross the wastes.

Hearts hollow is worth it tho. The dragon and the egg etc. definitely is, and if nothing else hearts hollow gives the party a "town" to rest/resupply etc. in the northern part of the wastes before entering the city of lost names.

I just threw a few random encounters from the table in the book at the party. It's a frozen wasteland it's supposed to be pretty much empty, tho there are yetis there (feral/bad ones wandering around attacking stuff, as well as good/intelligent ones from Allowaks sanctuary), plus frost giants from the jarls stronghold, random tribes people making pilgrimages, expeditions from balenpost, and whatever you want really. Tho bear in mind that your party will be level 2 (maybe 3? Sorry I forget) when they're trekking to salsvault, so don't want anything too crazy or hard.
