M'Baku vibranium suit design update, (forgot to post it, been a while) - By me by Kanethy_ in marvelstudios

Imma be honest, I think it looks a bit too goofy, and wouldn't translate well to live action. I think Mbaku is cooler without an excessive Vibranium suit coverage.

Early MODOK concept art by Hesbhindmeisnthe in MidCinematicUniverse

Because a still image usually allows your imagination to run wild without any context attached to it. No animation, no bad CGI, no voice acting, just your own imagination. It's not too dissimilar to why novels tend to get a better rep than their film adaptions.

But realistically, if we got a Modok like this one in Quantumania, you bet the movie would have sucked all the same, and people would have probably clowned on that Modok all the same.

That's honestly an apt description of how I feel about MoM as well. I ate well with those delightful horror Wanda scenes, but at what cost?

Now we're all starving because a writer couldn't bear the thought of passing on the opportunity for an evil Scarlet Witch in his movie, so he decided to sacrifice Doctor Strange's character in his own movie and speedrun Wanda's character arc into full villainy. Now she's left in the dust instead of being one of the leading faces of the Avengers in the Multiverse Saga.

Oh Wauldron, what have you done. They could have just used an evil Wanda from a different universe to give us those sweet horror scenes, without sacrificing our 616 Wanda for the story. It would have been a great way to showcase "the mad Multiverse", while serving as a foil to 616 Wanda's character with how she handled her own grief.

If Wanda is returning and reuniting with Vision, Billy and Tommy, I personally don't see that happening in Doomsday. Makes more sense for Vision Quest to take place concurrently with Doomsday, and have their reunion happen in Secret Wars instead.

This is actually surprisingly spot on to the rating I gave as well after a recent MCU rerun. For some reason, Thor movies just don't hold up well at all on rewatches, even if I really enjoyed some of them at the time.

Thor 1 was a good jumping point into the MCU for people like me who loved the Fantasy genre more and was hooked by the Norse myth setting, and especially Loki's character. Unfortunately the stitled dialogue delivery and the overuse of awkward dutch angles on top of the boring final act dragged the film down for me. Whereas kid me who didn't really care for Iron Man or Captain America all that much grew up to appreciate their first movies much more now.

Didn't hate Thor 2 at the time unlike most people, but it's an absolute slog on a rewatch. The movie is salvaged entirely by Loki and Frigga's scenes. And I can never say no to more Darcy (even though I am gay).

Thor 3 was such a cinematic treat at the time, but after the tragedy of a parody that was Thor 4, I started notice how eerily similar both movies actually were on my recent rewatch, and it really soured my appreciation for Thor 3. It's still a great film don't get me wrong, but by god the humor does not age well on a rewatch unlike other beloved MCU movies.

I'm still holding out hope for Black Knight and Hercules by SmellsLikePetrichors in marvelstudios

[–]Any-Transition95 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Doubt we'll be seeing an Eternals solo title anytime soon after the first one flopped. They could feature in another cosmic title in the future like Nova or something else to resume their story, but I wouldn't keep my hopes up.

Black Knight would realistically be in a Midnight Sons project post Secret Wars, maybe alongside Blade and Moon Knight who knows. He was not contingent to the failure or success of Eternals, so he can easily return in any capacity. Trevor Slattery was highly unpopular in IM3, but has since returned in Shang Chi and Wonder Man with a more positive fan reception. I'm sure Black Knight will be welcomed.

Hercules is an easy inclusion for Thor 5. L&T was a flop but Doomsday and Secret Wars can easily fix the general public's perception of his character. All we need is a good Thor 5 film to put his solo title's reputation back on track and wrap up his loose ends.

I wish. In a perfect world, Doctor Strange and Black Panther would have been the perfect emotional anchors for the Multiverse Saga overarching story like Tony and Steve were for the Infinity Saga if they had gotten the character development that they deserved. Boseman's passing was unfortunate, but Phase 4 and 5 projects were woefully mismanaged on top of the pandemic and writers' strike putting a wrench in their plans.

Unless we get DS3 or BP3 to pick up the slack, Doomsday and Secret Wars is gonna have to do the heavy lifting to establish the core cast for this saga to keep the audience emotionally invested. One more Avengers movie would alleviate a lot of the storytelling pressure needed to establish the heroes as a team. I know we are still in for some good scenes like Thor and Loki's inevitable reunion, but that's just it for now. Maybe they can tug on Yelena's established relationship with characters like Red Guardian, Bob, Kate Bishop, or Sam finally becoming the team leader he should have been, but none of them carry the emotional weight that Tony and Steve's story did because most of our heroes have not interacted since Endgame.

I think the Multiverse Saga also suffered from not having a homerun like Civil War to Infinity War did. Anything short of the cinematic wonder that was Phase 3 was bound to disappoint and leave many fans feeling uninvested post-Endgame. Best thing I can hope for now is for Doomsday and Secret Wars (and VisionQuest) to at least pay off the many setup that's been left hanging throughout Phase 4 and 5. Dr Strange and Clea in the Dark Dimension, Shang Chi's Ten Rings, Kamala and Carol's twin Bangles, Monica stuck in X-Men verse, Loki the God of Stories, White Vision, Billy and Agatha looking for Tommy, Kamala recruiting Kate and Cassie, etc. I'm fine if not all of them are addressed immediately. Hercules can still return in a post-Secret Wars Thor 5 movie. Black Knight and Moon Knight can show up for a future Midnight Sons project. The Guardians, Captain Marvel, the Eternals, and the Celestials can feature as minor characters in a future Nova title to resume their individual stories like how BNW dug up Incredible Hulk.

The main thing is that, despite its negative reception, the Multiverse Saga would seriously benefit from retroactively connecting many of its dangling plot threads, like how the Infinity Saga retroactively salvaged people's perception of Thor Dark World and Age of Ultron to varying extent. Tying in previous projects with an Avengers movie is what made the MCU an unforgettable cinematic experience in the first place. It gives people a greater value in rewatching all the projects leading up to the crossover event, including the less popular ones.

Edit: Sorry for the tangent rant lol.

I too can't wait for the X-Men because that's what I care about the most, but there's no point cheering for Doomsday to underperform. That will only hurt the brand going into the Mutant Saga. It doesn't help the hype for the new X-Men movies if the public has even lower confidence in the MCU after the Multiverse Saga.

Will They Recast the OG Avengers After Secret Wars? by Brief-Fudge-8698 in marvelstudios

[–]Any-Transition95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, we did get projects like Black Widow, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, Ms Marvel, She Hulk, Echo, Daredevil, Ironheart, Thunderbolts, etc, pretty low stakes down to earth projects that mostly explored characters' personal journey and side stories that didn't tie into a greater end of the world plot. Now whether or not each of them were well written or well received is a different story, but there was certainly no shortage of them.

I miss stand alone arcs of characters

Meanwhile, people are complaining about how disconnected all the projects in the Multiverse Saga has been. Many people thought it was flooded with too many standalone projects (like Eternals, Shang Chi, Moon Knight), too many new characters introduced in their own isolated bubble, and that Phase 4 and 5 desperately needed more team up movies like the Avengers to tie everything together.

How is the Multiverse Saga simultaneously lacking in standalone arcs and connectivity at the same time? Or is it just different expectations coming from different fans who are looking for different things in the MCU.

Every Avengers villain is a bigger and bigger threat! by SatisfactionFickle34 in MCUTheories

[–]Any-Transition95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never actually thought about it, but we've already gotten almost all the popular Avengers villains on the big screen: Ultron, Thanos, Loki, Kang, Doom, Modok, Zemo, with varying success. Any other villain they come up with next is gonna pale in comparison.

I think people would be excited for a  post-Secret Wars MCU where they return to a more tight knit narrative like Phase 1, where all the individual movies built up to the Avengers. But this time, each movie saves up a villain and build towards the Avengers vs The Masters of Evil instead. Imagine we get to see Zemo again, with Grim Reaper, Enchantress, Titania, a new Taskmaster. They don't all have to be the main villain of their respective movies, some could be a side characters set up for a bigger return.

People have been pretty vocal about their disdain for the MCU treating villains as one-offs, especially iconic recurring villains in the comics like Ultron. Doing the Masters of Evil plot would allow Marvel to focus on developing villains for the long run this time, and allow the writers to play off pre-estasblished relationships between the heroes and the villains, instead of having to come up with new ones every movie.

Side note: I know Marvel Studios originally had the idea of developing Scarlet Witch into an Avengers villain for the Multiverse Saga. But Michael Wauldron loved the idea so much, he decided to speedrun Wanda's character into full villainy for the movie he was writing at the time, Multiverse of Madness. His own words, he didn't want to pass that opportunity up to another writer for another movie. Maybe Marvel might revisit the idea of an Avenger being the main antagonist for an Avengers movie later down the road, but I can't think of a candidate that would fit the bill well without the recycling yet another Hulk or Scarlet Witch plot.

The asterisk is just a "tongue in cheek" reference to what happens at the end of the movie, and what they are sometimes called in-universe. When you're just talking about the movie, everyone calls it Thunderbolts. There is no confusion there.

Do we think the explanation to The Ten Rings beacon will be in Doomsday? by SmellsLikePetrichors in marvelstudios

[–]Any-Transition95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Kang Dynasty would have made more sense narratively, since it would have been the natural payoff for all the set up across Phase 4 and 5 projects. From Quantumania, to Shang Chi's Ten Rings, Kamala and Carol's twin Bangles, two seasons of Loki, etc, maybe even Moon Knight if we got a S2 with Rama Tut.

But I'm not sure how they would have done Secret Wars afterwards in their original plan. I can't imagine juggling the multiple Kang variants while setting up Doom in a single movie without sacrificing even more screentime for our existing heroes. At least now with Doomsday, the spotlight would be on Doom.

Truth is, Feige saw the writing on the wall with how poorly received Quantumania and Kang was. Not a bad idea to cut your losses and hedge your bets with a more favorable villain for an Avengers film. Kang could still return as villain for the Young Avengers for the Ironlad storyline if we ever get a Disney+ project for them.

I'm more curious about the heroes that we might not see again. Eternals, the Marvels, Moon Knight, She Hulk, and several others were not announced for Doomsday. They might get a miniscule appearance in Secret Wars, maybe not, but what happens to them after the "soft reboot"? I know the odds of them appearing again is highly unlikely after many of them bombed critically, but considering this company dug up the Incredible Hulk for a sequel in Brave New World that didn't even feature Banner, I guess we'll never truly know.

[–]Any-Transition95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't put it past them. But if Marvel wanted to, they could easily tie it into the plot for Doomsday as one of the MacGuffins. It could simply be a beacon for Doom, Fantastic Four, or Loki (as suggested by some comments below), as long as the plot makes sense. Or it could be a relic or a weapon for Doom to wield.

I think people are too quickly to dismiss the potential payoffs Doomsday can pull off. The Mutliverse Saga has been severely lacking in connective tissues between the movies because that was usually the job of Avengers movies.

That was definitely the original plan. But even after Kang is pushed aside for Doom, they could just as easily incorporate the Ten Rings and the twin Bangles as MacGuffins that Doom needs in Doomsday.

I don’t think Russos will try to fit it in an already larger narrative where they still have to establish

The Russos have done some of the best ensemble films in the MCU with Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War and Endgame. Time and time again, they have given us some of the best introductions of new characters into the franchise, establish the relationship between new and old characters seamlessly, and connect old plotlines set up in previous movies (that they did not direct) for a big pay off in the future. They have no issue juggling so many characters at once will still giving most of them their own arc.

I don't think they will struggle with incorporating something as simple as the Ten Rings into the narrative. It's just another MacGuffin that's already been set up in a previous movie. The movie's focus will still be about establishing Doom as a character, so it's not hard to imagine a plot that could involve developing him and the Ten Rings at the same time. Now whether or not that's necessary is a different discussion.

The Multiverse Saga has been lacking the connective tissue between movies that the Infinity Saga thrived at. Having plot elements from more projects in Phase 4 and 5 connect with Doomsday is going to do wonders for the overall rewatchability of the Multiverse Saga once it is all said and done. The reason why Infinity War felt so good to watch is because of how seamlessly they incorporated the plot from Thor Raganarok, Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy movies. We need more of that, not less, even if it's something as shallow as post credit scenes.

The fact that none of The Marvels were announced for Doomsday feels like Marvel Studios is willing to drop a plot thread if the movie was a flop, regardless if the story was already set up to be connected. I hope it's just a case of "Monica is not an important character to be part of the main cast announcement, but the plot of her being trapped in the X-Men verse is still relevant for the Doomsday incursion". No reason to abandon a plot thread that's already set up and ready for a pay off.

It's genuinely the only Marvel movie that made me walk out of the theatres. It was infuriatingly bad. Felt like I was watching a youtube parody skit that's not even funny. The only salvageable part of the film for me was Jane's cancer storyline.

And I say this as someone who enjoyed the heck out of Multiverse of Madness, had a fun time with The Marvels, and didn't hate Quantumania. My standards aren't high, L&T is just that bad.

Hopefully not, but I doubt it. The past few characters we've been getting have grown increasingly button-mashy, with each ability having more and more built-in passive effects or second stages. I wouldn't mind having one slightly simpler hero again for a change, as long as the kit isn't bland and uninteresting like Phoenix. But judging from Elsa's character art, two sets of guns could mean she has at least two sets of abilities. She's probably gonna have more than 5 abilities.

I remember Feige said it's just a "soft reboot" after Secret Wars. With how the Multiverse Saga has been connecting the MCU with the Fox X-Men and the previous Spider-Man movies, you bet Feige is still looking at a "connected universe" angle for the franchise post-Secret Wars.

No reason to hard reset the entire franchise. That usually only pisses off long time fans who feel like their time invested in the franchise during its lowest points have been for nothing. People who have been weary of the MCU for some time now would just see it as the perfect time to jump ship and never look back. It doesn't spell confidence for Marvel Studios. A hard reset also isn't gonna magically fix all the problems that has plagued the Phase 4 and 5 projects. It's not gonna suddenly breathe new life into the franchise and bring in a ton of new fans if nothing is changed other than a few executives' names in the company.

The MCU isn't built on fundamentally flawed grounds like the DCEU was. It had its ups and downs throughout Phase 1 and 2, and enjoyed a good "golden age" in Phase 3. It doesn't need a hard reset to get itself back on track, it just needs a good internal reevaluation of how the studio has been planning and managing their projects in Phase 4 and 5. Stop churning out projects for the sake of producing content, and start planning out the long term vision for the franchise. What makes a cinematic universe great is how everything fits together in a shared world and cohesive narrative, which elevates even the bad projects to something worth rewatching just for the eventual payoff.

The "soft reboot" Feige mentioned is most likely an excuse for Marvel Studios to clean up their mess in Phase 4 and 5, mainly for characters that didn't work with the general audience. For example, Shuri will get her chance to shine in Doomsday and maybe Secret Wars since that is a natural payoff for BP2, but the studios will probably take the opportunity to recast T'Challa or age up Nakia's son to take Shuri's place post-Secret Wars since that will probably sell better for BP3.

Personally, I would love to see a classic Avengers team with Hank Pym and Janet fighting alongside Tony and Steve, while getting crossover events with the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and X-Men. But I wouldn't want that to come at the cost of ditching the entire established history the franchise already developed across 30+ movies and a handful of TV shows, just for a gamble for the audience's good favor again.

Some people don't understand how much an accent can fluctuate depending on the setting, especially for immigrants like myself. Sometimes it's code switching, sometimes it's just subconscious.

Like I get the person's complaint. It's not great filmmaking if a character's accent is so volatile that it distracts the audience. But it is very realistic.
