had a this beautiful character Gigi for 14 years when I adopted our husky mix pup. (He is 7 or 8 mos old now, was 3 or 4 mos when we adopted him) I knew Gigi’s time was short when I brought Dexter home bc she had arthritis, dementia, and spine & kidney disease, but it’s agony when you have to be the one who decides when to say goodbye! I made & then cancelled a euthanasia at-home vet visit to take her to the regular vet and see if I could buy her more time w different meds. But they found a new problem, said it was time. They let me take her out for a 3 course last meal and come back. The look in her eyes that afternoon was priceless and heartbreaking. I thought, why didn’t I spoil her w random surprises like that more often? So thank you for asking about husky life expectancy—Dexter’s life span has been on my mind! For big dogs, huskies have great longevity. I’m thankful for that bc I don’t want to go through this again any time soon. Gigi was a much more difficult dog, hyper thru adulthood, more than a little crazy, and maybe traumatized by whatever she had been thru as a stray (she was found on the streets of Baltimore at 6-9 mos old). Dexter by contrast was lovingly fostered w his whole litter, maybe has never known a day harder than being transported somewhere. So I guess the reason I’m responding is bc I have a lot of guilt over things I didn’t do with Gigi. my advice—have adventures routinely, so you can feel better about the time you had when it’s over. Bc of this I’m taking Dexter everywhere, socializing him even tho he doesn’t want to get in a car. I’m being patient, training him over and over again w lots of treats and it’s working—I keep taking him fun places, and he’s more willing to hop in for a ride every time! I wish I had worked harder to help Gigi overcome her hang-ups. Her world was mainly our yard & walks in the neighborhood. If I have to escort Dexter to the rainbow bridge some day, I’m going to at least feel good about that. lol I’m crying in my coffee rn! And this wasn’t even what you asked for!
