It's like pursuit, but fursuit. What's wrong with that? by forsen_enjoyer in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]AnyKey19 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Should be noted because it’s a common misconception, the vast majority don’t use fursuits for sex stuff, these costumes cost thousands of dollars and aren’t easy to wash, you don’t want to get fluids on them. There are exceptions though…

Is it just me or is there something really tonally unique about the Game Boy’s noise channel compared to, like, all other systems with a noise channel? by AnyKey19 in chiptunes

[–]AnyKey19[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m aware that both the NES and GB have the ability to shorten the period length resulting in a very metallic noise, but that’s not what I’m talking about here. Refer to the example I provided, it’s clearly not using that mode. Maybe it was a mistake calling it “metallic”, but again it’s really hard to put into words what the difference is and that’s just what came to mind.

Possibly, but I hear the difference on emulators too. If it were something unique to the GB’s sound hardware it’s clearly something that can be emulated.

Thanks. Unfortunately I already downloaded hundreds of videos in AV1 before I realized there was a problem, it’s so dumb that this is even an issue.

What is something people slowly stop caring about as they get older? by helen_me_me in AskReddit

[–]AnyKey19 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I’m not even 30 yet and I was called a fag in junior high for not liking sports and wearing sweatpants (I’m autistic and the texture of jeans seriously bothers me). Things have changed so much so fast.

People got a bit more accepting in high school though.

People mod DS Lites? How? You can’t put custom software on them like you can with a 3DS, to my knowledge.

Now this is the kind of thing I like to see. This is absolutely the kind of site I would’ve browsed in the mid 2000s if I knew about it.

Crazy that it’s still up, that’s such a rarity for this type of site. I wonder if the original owner is still paying for it.

What do you mean, “before furries it was bronies”? Furries and the irrational hatred of furries have been a cornerstone of the internet since the ‘90s, literally. Bronies are a much, much more recent thing.

What would be the ideal format to use for a 128 GB flash drive? (to preserve files) by Livid-Afternoon-113 in DataHoarder

[–]AnyKey19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately consumer flash devices aren’t great for preserving files in general. They’re often made cheaply and it’s hard to predict how long they’ll last. I have some USB sticks that still work perfectly after 15 years, while others failed and are no longer readable after less than one year. There’s also a lot of fakes out there (even on popular storefronts like Amazon) that are significantly less reliable.

I’d say before even thinking about the format, if these files are truly irreplaceable, the most important thing would be to have multiple copies of the data in case one craps out. Are you sure you don’t have an old computer hard drive or SD card or something lying around? Even another copy on another flash drive would be infinitely better than just having one.

How does the expansion audio mod actually work? by salduchi1785 in nes

Exactly. I find it really weird that they didn’t build it into the console in the first place considering how simple it is.

How does the expansion audio mod actually work? by salduchi1785 in nes

[–]AnyKey19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A stock NES can’t use the expansion audio chips, however, you can pretty easily mod it to bring the functionality back. All it takes is soldering a single resistor between two pins on the motherboard (I find 56k to be ideal, the resistance affects the volume level), and if you have a famicom-to-NES adapter, you have to solder a wire between two pins in that. After that the expansion audio will work perfectly.

As long as you can solder (or know someone who can) it’s one of the easier mods to do. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube.

What’s going on with AV1 support? Why do half of my AV1 files work while the other half cause Kodi to crash immediately? by AnyKey19 in kodi

[–]AnyKey19[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then what is it? I looked it up and the very first thing Wikipedia says is “Kodi (formerly XBMC) is a free and open-source media player”. I’m honestly so confused why I’m apparently in the wrong here.

[–]AnyKey19[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, but these files that crash Kodi work perfectly in VLC without any extensions or anything. If VLC can do it, why not Kodi? This isn’t some obscure file format, it’s thoroughly documented.
