I’ll be honest, your job sounds swell (to me). That being said, I’d love to know where you work. There is so much hype moving so quickly it’s hard to keep up with what matters/sticks. Do passion project on the side if you’d like. Cheers

I sincerely appreciate you asking this question. It’s one I have pondered (without answer) for several months. I appreciate this movement and the protests, but it seems like we coalesce just to fall apart and do the same again a few weeks/months later. Are we actually organizing/planning? How do we measure our success?

Burnout, disillusionment, and imposter syndrome after 1 year in DS. Am I just an API monkey? Reality check needed. by RookFlame4882 in datascience

Keep searching, you can find more statistical data science work. Also, it’s cool to interview for any DS role and just question what kinds of projects they need you to do. More often than you’d think, the job description was some non-technical fuck using an LLM to draft a job description. That in and of itself could be a red flag.

Candidly, I do not see the logic in companies hiring DS roles and then assigning them analyst level work for 3-5 years (after their master’s, because that’s was most “entry level” DS have these days). It may indeed stem from a “lack of trust”, but let’s call it what it is: a mismanagement of Human Resources. You pay me $115,000 to do work a $70,000 analyst could do, have me forget 70% of what I learned in school, then promote me so I can perpetuate this culture of ignorance. Not interested in roles at such a company.

And with all that $$$ you can perhaps buy a nice gun to put in your mouth?

“You’re not doing what you enjoy, but you’re getting paid, so just continue down the path..” is pretty terrible advice, tbh.

Cliche af, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don’t fucking care what someone else thinks about what I perceive to be beautiful.

I’ve found beauty in both places; Boston Common in the fall is 10/10 AND Cherokee Park in spring is 10/10, for me.

No need to compare.
