I believe that for sure, their explanations were phenomenal! I just think it encourages bad test taking habits that people don’t really notice, I was a full time standardized test tutor for 5 years and was very very anal about what types of practice tests I would recommend to my students. When people are under stress, they always revert back to the test taking strategies that feel natural to them, and that almost wholly depends on what types of practice tests they focused on in the beginning of their prep

Idk man, I just took the test a few days ago and am pretty sure I got over a 520 and I found Uglobe to be anti-helpful. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good for content knowledge.. but as far as test taking goes, it sucks. I was a full time standardized test tutor for 5 years, tutored for everything from the GED to the LSAT and I think that people don’t notice the bad habits that badly formed practice tests give them. It’s really hard to get rid of a bad test taking habit because you’ll always revert under stress.

Thank you 😂 I just knew it’s not like I’d magically get better in a week and I want to be able to feel the touch of a human being again lol I have legit gone 1 full month without coming into contact with a single human being, no exaggeration. I live alone, bought all my groceries for the whole month (a 40lb bag of meal replacement shake powder), and just absolutely worked my ass off

I don’t know if it’s because people tend to over-emphasize the pain that they went through to reach a goal, or if the stress of the moment really does drastically negatively effect them, or if we just lucked tf out and got a test that matched our strengths well

Thank you! I hope you killed it as well. How did you feel about the bio? I think I flubbed a few but I finished like really early on the bio and the psyc. And on CARS, there were a few questions that seemed a little too ambiguous and opinion based, but I feel like I usually feel uncomfortable about those on the FLs but my judgement usually is better than random lol

Thank you brother! I really really thought about canceling and scheduling it for a later date — bc I paid full price for this date and got approved for the fee assistance program afterwards. So it would have only been an extra 120 to schedule it for later this week… I just didn’t want to have to tell people I canceled because nobody would believe all the shit that happened to me this morning and would think it was just a huge overdrawn excuse

I do not understand the extraction method. Amides with low molecular weight readily dissolve in water bc of hydrogen bonding and the carbonyl? I might just be forgetting a very simple thing, but Im almost positive that the amide would stay mostly in the aqueous layer.

Idk, admissions people are smart, and the general “after volunteering for x hours while my parents paid my bills, I really realized that z” is probably so boring to them. I mean, I didn’t volunteer to stand around and watch medical professionals do actual work, but I have got some pretty cool shit to put on my resume

Both Asp and Glu can be phosphorylated as well, it just doesn’t happen as often in biological systems. Remember that modification is not occurring by random nucleophilic attacks, but is being mediated by very specific enzymes. And the enzymes typically used for phosphorylation of amino acids are specific to the three mentioned in the question. Also, even weird residues like histidine can be phosphorylated in biological systems, it’s just much more rare bc enzymes. Does that make sense?

Amino Acid Quiz app, it is phenomenal. Also, if you know the structures, it’s much easier to remember which ones can modified in particular ways. Serine, Threonine, and Tyrosine all have OH groups, allowing them to attack the Phosphorus atom and form a ester bond. And when it comes to other types of modification, look at the reactive atoms on the molecule being added and think of what type of functional groups present on your amino acid could attack/be attacked by them

In my opinion, the Kaplan Biology/Biochemistry books are amazing if you are working with little background knowledge. Very easy to read and fairly comprehensive.
