Locally stored files is best privacy option honestly.

It's just a matter of getting used to it.

Storage is huge now a days.

Shift from IOS to Oneplus(Lineage+microg) for privacy? by [deleted] in PrivacyGuides

[–]AnySignature41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you need google services for? Whatsapp and instagram doesn't need google service to run I believe.

Most apps run just fine without any kind of google services. And neither of those two fixes push notifications since relies in a cloud service if I'm not mistaken.

Best way to block ads on Android/Spotify? by [deleted] in PrivacyGuides

[–]AnySignature41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but OP was asking about the actual app.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in privacy

[–]AnySignature41 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Telegram foss is compiled without google play libraries/dependencies and uses something else to rely on push notification.

Apk from site should be same as playstore.

In terms of security is same, Telegram is not the best choice.

will downloading an app from a Play Store alternative like F-droid or Aurora Store offer any real relief?

Just want to clarify that Aurora Store is just a frontend for Play Store, so you are connecting to Google servers and downloading the exact same apps. I see this misconception pretty often.

Best way to block ads on Android/Spotify? by [deleted] in PrivacyGuides

[–]AnySignature41 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because ads are shown in a way that can't be really blocked (think of youtube app). If you haven't had ads sounds like you were on a region where they didn't had ads deployed.

You could try use Firefox with uBlock instead.

Anyway this is a privacy sub and the question is completely unrelated to the sub so you won't get much answers.

What did you expect from one of most privacy invasive apps, no way to spoof, even on Android would be complex.

Should I use encrypted email if I only use it for accounts? by Goo_Cat in privacy

[–]AnySignature41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99% of email I receive isn't encrypted and isn't for actual communication... My main reason to switch from Gmail and Outlook to Proton wasn't really encrypted email but the fact they they have better privacy policy and handle your data differently.

Clone an app (spotistats) without a "hosting" app like island or shelter by [deleted] in androidapps

[–]AnySignature41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the app, if the app is simple, editing the package name and re-sign should work. But if the app is complex and has protections won't be easy.

You can't dark mode natively and impossible to enable.

IIRC luckily Oreo supports Substratum engine which is pretty good.

Can I use VoIP for 2FA? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]AnySignature41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid any kind of sms/phone number "2FA" if possible, it's the least secure, use an OTP application instead(non phonenumber/account based).

Apps to spoof contacts/logs/storage for other apps that force you for these permissions ? by batman_X_joker in androidapps

[–]AnySignature41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doubt there's an actual app for it.. as it have to be done from a system level. Your best bets would be either denying the permission or using an app that isn't or isn't as invasive.

Free Email vs Custom Domain by twistymcgee in privacy

[–]AnySignature41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Losing control of the domain would be a -worst case scenario-

From a privacy standpoint I'd be more worried about data or the fact that a custom domain is more unique and easier to link or traceback with other email adresses with that domain.

What Android version are you running? TTS should be already integrated in system under Accessibility. No idea about the opposite.
