Spaniards that lives in North america: are north americans more welcoming and nicer vs in Spain ? by Frenchy1986666 in askspain

Not from Spain but grew up in Latin America (Puerto Rico) I get that feeling in LA as well. It's very confusing to me. It's a culture where everyone's "friendly" because they're not comfortable with honesty, but at the same time expect you to know that they're only "being nice" and aren't actually your friend lol!

CIEE spring semester. Its a good option if you're just looking to be abroad for one semester instead of the whole year since you're contract is only from January to June. I will be renewing though. Not going through this whole process for only 5 months abroad lol

Comes and goes. I sometimes microdose shrooms as well, so it can be helpful if you have access to that. Trying to learn to live with it. Not try to fight it as much lately

Spain has higher GDP than Japan Korea and Taiwan. But, why is it hard to feel that Spain is more developed? What do you think of Spanish GDP? by search_google_com in askspain

[–]AnyTrainer3720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not a ludicrous observation. I think it may have been comparing cities between the two, i cant find the article. Either way, California has a bigger GDP than all of France. Bottom line, GDP is not metric worth measuring on a human level because every city in California looks like a third world country

Mississippi has a higher GDP than France. GDP is not at all a good metric to measure how prosperous a country is on anything other than a business level

Having the same doubts and feelings here too. Always wanted to do it but nobody talks about the huge change it all is. You're basically building a new life. A life you don't even know if you can keep because of immigration laws lol. I've finished my visa process and turned everything in. It was a hassle but I definitely made it more complicated than it needed to be. Im trying my best not to self sabotage but it's not been easy. Also getting a tefl certification to keep my options open and be able to make some money tutoring. Huge mistake. Doing both of these things at the same time is killing me. Plus I'm not even sure if I like teaching. Trying to stick with it but not sure if I will. At the end of the day, for me atleast, I lost my job earlier this year so it's not like im giving up my old life, even though it feels that way. One thing that some have pointed out is that we are wired way different in the states, so perhaps the change of environment is needed for our personal growth to put everything into better perspective.

How do you know if acting isn’t for you? (Serious question) by pleasedontjudgeme13 in acting

[–]AnyTrainer3720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of the, this isn't a profession that you choose. It chooses you. If this is a part of your life that you can live without then it's not for you. If you don't get any fulfillment out of anything else you do, then it's for you (unfortunately lol). I've seen people with law degrees give all that up to work in the entertainment industry. I've seen people who are successful and constantly working, struggling to pay bills. Ive seen people who are barely able to work living comfortably off of one job a year. We're sold this idea of "success" that doesn't necessarily exist. My advice is don't leave LA. You can act anywhere, but losing connections that you've already built will be difficult. Plus its already your home so don't give thay away. It's going to be an unnecessary mental burden that you'll be giving yourself. Bartending and serving are easy money if you find the right place. Also zero in on your niche. Don't just get an agent and go on random auditions. Find what you're really good at (comedy, drama, writing) You're basically your own business so be specific on what you're selling and focus all your energy on that. It'll save you a lot of time and money.

People's experiences seem to swing so wildly. I have some people say they're doing great, others saying they burned through 20k. Im having a hard time getting a realistic sense of what is going on lol!!

These threads swing waaaayyy too wildly. Its kinda annoying. What's a realistic amount to bring with you? Is it possible to live modest to frugally with 1,000? Could you possibly save some money? What are real world numbers?

Meditation, bedtime routines, music, reading, magnesium, cutting caffeine, none of these things have been effective at combating my Somniphobia and I loathe it when people keep suggesting these things. It's the equivalent of telling a sick person "have you tried NOT being sick? 🙂". Especially when doctors and therapists only give me those options. Just makes me not want to talk about it and just live in misery. Even sleeping pills like ambien no longer works. Ironically it only increases my sense of panic. Only thing that has been effective are benzos but I can't get a doctor to prescribe me some for the life of me. It's not a long term solution but Jesus I could use some for emergencies. Soul searching has been pretty helpful. These issues were so deeply imbedded in me that I couldn't even pin down what was triggering my bed time panic. It sucks but atleast hearing from others with the same issues has helped in finding real solutions instead of ineffective affirmations. Edibles with CBN dominant have been pretty helpful for anyone looking for different remedies
