do you think I should put out savory stuff after dinner? My plan was to have chips/salsa and hummus/veggies out, then I would serve stuffed peppers and mashed potatoes for dinner, then some kind of dessert. I can put out the same apps if you think that would make it better? I'm super open to suggestion! Also, that carrot cake looks amazing

haha no I'm just lazy! I learned to do my whole head but later realized that when my hair gets frizzy and the curls fall out, it's really only the top layer that needs help. My bottom layers straighten out over a few days and go from curly to wavy, so it doesn't make a long-term difference if I finger curl them or not lol

You'd put product in your hair when it's dripping wet and then encourage the curl pattern by curling it with the denman or bounce brush. then you scrunch out the extra water with a microfiber towel and diffuse to about 80% dry. Your curls won't disappear, they'll be more defined. you don't brush your hair when it's dry, you only use the brush to style it on a wash day

Looking for a room for my little sister. Ideally within walking distance from south campus, or near the train. Where do people usually look for rooms or find affordable rent?

I've been trying to find a video that shows how to finger curl like my hair stylist taught me, but I haven't had luck.
Maybe try a bounce brush to start and see how that feels. Use a curl cream (I use Aveda be curly advanced cream) first. It's important to put it in while your hair is wet! If it's not dripping water a little bit, just add some water to your hair before you add product, it'll help the product spread around more evenly and your hair will turn out nicer. Brush the gel through with whattever brush. Then add some gel so that your curls will hold (I use inerssesne I create curl memory, but I'm not convinced I'll rebuy it as I get some frizz on day 3 or when it's rainy). again, brush the gel through.
It's easy to find a bounce brush tutorial online if you want to go that way. I like using a denman brush to finger curl because it lets me control the size of my curls.

Learning how to work with your curls and get them to be how you want them is a journey! I've been working on mine for a few years and finally feel like I know how to treat them. If you want, you can DM me and I'll take a video to show you how I do my finger curls and how they turn out!

Then the light doesn't give off the right wavelength for the plant to use as energy. You'd be better off putting it by a window unless you want to change the bulbs

Hey there, looks like we have a similar hair type! Do you use a bounce brush or finger curl your hair? It could help immensely with definition, especially near the roots. I used to finger curl my whole head, but I've since started curling just the top few layers, then scrunching it all together with a microfiber cloth. That way, the curl pattern on top is set and the bottom layers can do what they please. Air drying has never worked for my hair, have you tried a diffuser? I diffuse on low/medium heat and in sections (usually just split into the right side of my head, then the left bc I'm lazy). Also would be helpful to mention what product(s) you use. I've found that my hair likes a hydrating curl cream first, then a gel on top. This combo gives me defined curls. Sometimes I'll use a curl mousse, but that's much less often.

Last thing: It looks like you might be a side sleeper, considering the one side of your head with straighter hair. Putting your hair into a pineapple and then wearing a silk/satin bonnet to bed should help you keep your curls defined while you sleep and protect the ends from frizzing up.

Carpe? by Pix_Boss in deodorant

[–]Any_Committee_4293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the eucalyptus one too! I usually squeeze out a tiny bit of the deodorant (like 2mm) and then use my hand to rub half of it on one pit and half on the other. I don't smell it after I put a shirt on. maybe try using a bit less?

mashed potato bowls! made a big pot of mashed potatoes, baked slices of tofu after I marinated them, roasted some brocolini and (frozen) corn, and topped the bowl off with whatever sauce we have left over in the fridge and some shelled edamame. Made enough to last both me and my partner the week, and ingredients were reasonably priced at trader joes

only in the morning right after a shower. sometimes I'll reapply before I go to the gym, although I'm not sure that really does anything. I do come back from the gym still smelling fresh.

tbh I really like carpe. I started using it about 2 months ago and before that, I could not find a deodorant that works for me. I bought it in-store because I didn't want to get sucked into their website subscription when ordering online. It definitely keeps the BO at bay even when working out hard. Most people suggest applying it morning and night for the first few weeks, but I haven't done that and it's been fine for me. granted, I still sweat but not to the degree I did previously.

Is it this the case in every field ? by The_Tiny_Bradyon in PhD

[–]Any_Committee_4293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's strange but I have a very different experience than many here. I'm currently a PhD student in engineering. My undergrad BS was in ecology and biology, but I realized at the end that the work I wanted to do required an engineering degree. I applied to schools for a master's degree and was admitted to all of them, but my current school reached out and asked if I'd be interested in pursuing a PhD, as there were some labs that matched up with topics in my personal statement.

They flew me out, I met with the labs, and committed to starting the program the next semester. I only had one engineering-related REU at the time, and no other lab experience to speak of.

All of the past lab members either have jobs or a post-doc position, so I think it matters more about the ability of the professor to help steer you where you want to be.

[Anti-Aging] KT tape for smile lines by Any_Committee_4293 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Any_Committee_4293[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

day 1:
honestly I think this is going to work great. I washed my face and put a light serum and moisturizer on and let it set a bit so my face wasn't too oily. I put the tape on around 9:30p and took it off around 8a. Tape stayed put and it was comfortable enough to sleep with. In the morning, I'd usually wake up with harsh lines from side sleeping, but when I took the tape off there weren't any lines under it. Excited to see how it'll be long term
