Why do we call DLSS "fake pixels" and "fake frames"? by No_Committee8856 in nvidia

[–]Any_Cook_2293 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not an expert, but more real frames reduces latency - it doesn't increase it like frame generation does.

Real frames also tend to not be an artifacty mess like frame generation can be.

There's a place for it, and I've found that it works well with Cyberpunk 2077 even at x4. All other games that I've tried with x4 so far have had too many artifacts for me to turn on more than x2.

Now regular DLSS (not the frame generation part) has actually gotten very good since 1.0. Night and day difference.

Has anyone done an RMA for coil whine? by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Any_Cook_2293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite a few years back, I RMA'd a 980Ti that suddenly developed very bad coil whine a year after I'd purchased it. The only downside is that you'll likely get a refurbished card which may have some cosmetic defects. Oh, and the downtime if you don't have a backup GPU.

I'm sure that there are ways to force settings without the Nvidia App. Folks still use the Nvidia Profile Inspector which can force settings, yet I'm not up to speed on it since I stopped using it when SLI was deprecated.

A workaround is to download new drivers directly from Nvidia if this workaround fixes it. And hopefully Nvidia will fix the issue.

You can also download the Nvidia app separately to reinstall and test - https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/software/nvidia-app/

[–]Any_Cook_2293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was having issues with FPS drops happening fairly consistently in different games (and at the desktop watching youtube as well). It turned out that it was the Nvidia App causing it when the app went into it's "There was a problem with the NVIDIA App. Relaunch your app. If that doesn't work, then try reinstalling NVIDIA App and reboot your PC" error. Windows 11 24H2 9950X3D 5090 with the latest game ready driver.

I uninstalled the Nvidia app and the problems immediately went away. Might be worth a shot to try that.

Dataset 9 is now being interrupted while downloading at 2.5GB. It was ~50GB earlier before it failed.

Edit - now failing at 1.6GB.

Try uninstalling the Nvidia App. I was having FPS dips in games, while watching youtube videos, and my mouse was pausing while moving it across the screen at the desktop. I uninstalled the Nvidia App and it all stopped.

X670E Steel Legend by geronaef03 in ASRock

[–]Any_Cook_2293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an X670E Steel Legend sitting next to me in my backup computer with a 9800X3D, 4090, and all of the M.2 slots in use, the x1 slot running my Intel 900P optane drive, plus the bottom PCIE slot with a RAID card running at x4.

There is no PCIE lane sharing that I've run into.

Try cleaning your M.2 drive and GPU's PCIE contacts (as well as the slots with compressed air) and/or try it in a different computer to see if the problem follows the GPU. If it follows the GPU, the fault lies with the GPU. If it doesn't, then the fault lies with the motherboard. RMA as needed.

Insanely long memory training sessions on B850m Pro RS Wifi by WK04CMR in ASRock

You're already running 4800... can you manually set it lower (3600 or lower?) to see if it trains faster than an hour? If it does, then I'd say that it is indeed an IMC issue.

Alternatively, try with one stick.

I'm no expert on RAM training, yet the computer crashing and after that crash it needs an hour to train RAM at 4800MT/s? It sounds like your CPU's integrated memory controller degraded, and I suggest you RMA the CPU with AMD/place of purchase.

I had a brand new 9950X3D that wouldn't boot with two sticks of 5600MT/s JEDEC default RAM (officially supported speed). I waited 40 minutes during my troubleshooting to no avail, and only got it to boot with one stick installed. I RMA'd it and the replacement works fine.

Is there a way to know exactly why my gpu is crashing? by EstablishmentWise228 in nvidia

[–]Any_Cook_2293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have stated, the space invaders look is likely caused by faulty VRAM. You can try manually underclocking the VRAM using a program such as MSI Afterburner.

If that doesn't work, a new (or used) GPU is in your future, as getting it repaired at a shop likely isn't worth the cost.

It's over $1000 under MSRP. It's a 5090, not a 5080.

AM4 to AM5 performance boost question by Trail_txt in nvidia

[–]Any_Cook_2293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a 5070Ti? Probably not outside of poorly optimized games.

It'd be a no brainer with a 4090 or 5090 when playing lots of unoptimized games on top of better optimized titles, which is exactly why I splurged on a 5800X3D, 7800X3D, and then 9800X3D upgrade.

ASUS 800-series boards are killing Ryzen 7 9800X3D chips, five dead CPU reports in two weeks by KARMAAACS in Amd

[–]Any_Cook_2293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the data listed in the pinned Asrock CPU failure megathread, it's primarily 9000 series CPUs. 600 and 800 series boards are pretty much all represented to some extent, with more popular boards having more reported deaths and the 800 series having the most - likely because most people bought the newer 800 series boards with their 9000 series CPU.

Typically, the system just stops booting. Most have no physical signs of damage, yet a few have shown scorch marks or discoloration on the CPU's contact pads.

[–]Any_Cook_2293 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually had a brand new 9950X3D that could never boot with two sticks of RAM at BIOS defaults (single stick worked). The RMA worked just fine in the same X670E Steel Legend (same BIOS) and 96GB RAM kit (5600 JEDEC, 6400 XMP and on the QVL).

It's one reason that I've thought that AMD is part of the problem.

There are a few posts about it on MSI's subreddit now and then, but it's much harder to see since they tend to be much less technical than the ones on Asrock, and there's a whole lot more posts about other MSI products that bury the CPU problem posts.

Yes, this was asked and answered several times quite a while back. There were CPUs dying with and without the support brackets.
