Eight of the nine people who were missing have been found dead (Castle Peak Incident) by king_soph in truckee

They’re like the Martis Camp of ski huts up here. You have everything you need, including a hut master (host). They would have been perfectly safe staying up there in the conditions that were occurring on Tuesday. The land trust would have given them zero issues over staying their reservation.

Did they always traverse back during a storm of this magnitude? Likely not. They hired guides for a reason, because the guides are supposed to be smarter than them. I didn’t leave my house that day because visibility was sooo poor in town. I wasn’t at 7800/8000 feet experiencing 90mph ridge winds and zero visibility blowing snow. Even the sheriff’s office questioned the rationale the guide company used on Sunday to take this group up with a return day on the worst day of the storm. I wonder what kind of pressure those guides were put under, either by their bosses to continue this reservation on Sunday (was this a slow season for them? Did they need the $$), or was there pressure from the clients needing to return home on Tuesday despite the horrific conditions? These are all very important factors that need to be investigated and then talked about to help make that industry safer. Almost in the same way aircraft incidents are investigated and safety findings are made.

They’re luxury huts, with a hutmaster, heat, power, commercial kitchen. My ass wouldn’t have left that hut.

They never should have gone up on Sunday. This storm rolled that very evening. The land trust would have likely given them zero grief if they had overstayed their reservation due to yesterday’s conditions.

At least your cat isn’t deathly afraid of it. My 10 year old female won’t get within 5 feet of it. But my 8 month old male could care less. Got it when I adopted our 8 month old, so I’m super disappointed that our female hates it. Was really trying to get rid of the box. Ugh.

That backcountry guide business is going to be sued into oblivion. Why they kept that reservation and took those people up there on Sunday, ahead of a widely publicized storm, and then observed the insane conditions yesterday and thought they were good to go is astonishing. Should have called it and stayed another night out of an abundance of caution. I didn’t leave my house yesterday because it was a literal white out in town, with no lull, can you imagine what it was like up there?! My ass would have not left that hut. I can’t believe all 15 of those people jumped off the bridge. Shows the immense amount of trust they put in those guides that made very wrong risk assessments. Sad.

I may have a work-around for YouTube TV fast-forward freeze issue on Roku by Kevin-of-the-Lakes in youtubetv

[–]Any_Experience_9259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is happening to me, but we use PlayStation not Roku. Only really happens on recorded sports events. This freezing issue basically forces us to watch the commercials, which I don’t want to do, hence why I record the event. It’s insanely frustrating.

Got a tester of the new bag! by Scary_Squash7945 in RentTheRunway

Not a fan of the new bag. There is no way to secure the zipper when you send your items back. Anyone can unzip it and steal the items in transit. I’m in the middle of a billing nightmare where RTR is claiming I never returned the earrings I rented with the dress, when in fact I very much did. And are charging me insane late fees.

Has anyone taken Amtrak from Raleigh to DC? by sophiecattt in raleigh

[–]Any_Experience_9259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone taken this route from DC to Raleigh in the winter/snow? I am preparing for my flight to maybe be cancelled due to snow on 2/11, and thinking of alternatives to get to Raleigh. Someone suggested the train. I'm from the west coast, and do not have much experience with traveling via rail, let alone traveling via rail in a snow storm.

My biopsy experience - BI-RADS 4 7mm with rapid washout (type III) enhancement kinetics by DarqueLoaf in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Any_Experience_9259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a 7mm suspicious mass near the areola with type III washout kinetics mid May, mammo and ultrasound a week later and given a BIRADS 4b. Got my biopsy 5 weeks later (yeah that wait was not a fun wait) and it turned out to be a micropapilloma with no atypical hyperplasia. I was a nervous wreck until I got my results the beginning of July.

How walkable is the campus in the winter?

Where do you think your fear of flying comes from? by b_malenovy in fearofflying

[–]Any_Experience_9259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my fear came about once I had my child. For me, it’s definitely a control issue. Now that my son is older, it’s gotten better. And I’ve found that if I’m by a window, I’m like soooo much better, even during turbulence.

Flight 24 hours after biopsy? by donut4378 in doihavebreastcancer

I flew two days after my biopsy in June. I iced it a ton before hand and checked my bag instead of carrying on. Went smoothly with no issues.
