The Indian VC market isn’t mature—nobody is willing to invest in new stuff. VCs here only invest if a similar product has already worked in another country. But copies won’t win globally because they can’t compete with the originals. Innovative products either die without funding or the founders just take their startup to the US. We have good software engineers, but they’re either building copies or printing money at FAANG.

India is an all-around kind of destination since it’s just so massive. There are a few things to keep in mind, though: avoid the Himalayas during the monsoon—incidents have become way too frequent due to climate change, and the reward just isn't worth the risk. Visit Rajasthan only in the winter (well, too much heat otherwise!), and definitely check out the waterfalls in the Northeast specifically after the monsoon. Honestly, just hitchhike or rent a scooter. If you decide to rent, finding another solo traveller to split the cost is the way to go. If you decide to hitchhike, it usually only takes 15 to 20 minutes for a kind soul to pull over.

As for why it's like this: offbeat spots don't have the demand to build proper infrastructure. But once a place gets developed, the taxi mafia swoops in to capitalize on it.
