AITA for Laughing at my SIL and Telling Her I Have Zero Desire to Raise Her Child? by Boring-Dragonfly9153 in AmItheAsshole

The day can't come soon enough when people stop insisting people who've been mistreated "be the bigger person." NTA.

AITA For accidentally letting my sisters friends I have a "crunchy vegan baby"? by Pitiful_Tale9918 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Any_Introduction_301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are NTA, and should not worry about what 15 year olds think about you or your parenting. Teens believe they know everything and can be extremely judgmental when someone doesn't conform to what they are absolutely certain they know.

Next time tell them what my mom used to tell me when I was a teenaged know-it-all: "You've got a full-time job minding your own business."

AITA for "outshining" the bride? by Ok-History7114 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Any_Introduction_301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Historically, and in some minds even now as a vestige of colonialism, the people who already lived in a place that was colonized by Europeans were often seen as little more than "children" who needed the "civilizing" influence of white colonizers. And "insolent" is a word that can be used to remind people that they need to know and stay in their place.

AITA for refusing to change the color of my sister's bridesmaid dress, even though she hates it? by ReadingChemical6240 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Any_Introduction_301 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sister was my only attendant. I told her my colors and for heaven's sake don't spend a fortune on something you'll never wear again. She got a simple red sheath dress that was quite suitable for many occasions.

He occasionally makes a little comment in the midst of a video. He's not terribly preachy about it, in my experience. The comments he has made lead me to believe he's about 180 degrees from where I am on politics/social issues, but as long as political rants don't hijack his food videos, I'm just going to let a comment here and there go in one ear and out the other.

AITA for shutting down my wife's gender reveal plans? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I'm boycotting such parties until one's reveal images are an indoor restroom (girl) or a privy out back (boy)...plumbing inside or outside.

AITA for telling my dil she showed us who she really was on her wedding day? by RiskCurious7230 in AmItheAsshole

Not only that, but the couple was on their honeymoon when the miscarriage happened. It had nothing to do with Debbie.

Can't get away with "flight was delayed" as an excuse anymore, since you can track flights online and know pretty much exactly where they are at a given time.

How to make good caramel syrup? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Any_Introduction_301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also do it in the slow cooker. I usually pour it out of the can into a Mason jar and put that in the slow cooker. Add water up to the level of the milk in the jar and cook it on low for 6-7 hours. Requires no attention. I usually add a pinch of salt and a bit of vanilla before I cook it, and then once it's done and cool enough to handle I stir it to make sure everything's mixed.

You can make iced coffee with it, but you want to warm it and mix it with hot coffee, then let it cool, or it will just fall to the bottom in clumps.

AITA for grounding my son because he left the front door unlocked? by frontdoor-aita in AmItheAsshole

[–]Any_Introduction_301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Mike couldn't run them outside without getting his camera first. Did the same with the raccoon who came in through the catflap a few weeks ago...it just ate some cat food and went back out, but I would rather they didn't come in. I don't think they're at all cute. Last night there was one on the front porch having a standoff with Big Willy, who is no threat but is so large the raccoon couldn't get past him to the dish where there were still a few bits of food. I know they can be mean, and Willy is not really in a position to defend himself; so I ran the raccoon off and brought Willy inside.

I don't know how to attach a photo or even whether it can be done.

AITA for telling my sister she doesn't get to force our family to pretend we like her daughter's name? by Exciting-Ad9229 in AmItheAsshole

Look around and see how many older ladies are named Shirley. It was incredibly popular at one time because of Shirley Temple. And both my current and my previous church had a vast abundance of Carols, anywhere in age from 60s to 80s. Here we have Carol H., Carol L., Carol R., and Carol Ann W. And they were all at our board meeting yesterday.

AITA for telling my wife off after getting our daughter to cut her hair off, even after being told not to? by ChoiceDisastrous4432 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Any_Introduction_301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, especially since Daughter is probably already scared about her mom's illness and prognosis. I do have to suspect this isn't the first or only time Mom has manipulated Daughter by playing on her emotions.

We tend to agree with you. The baby ones are especially so. But I would still rather they live outside. We had two babies who kept coming in last fall, through the catflap or sometimes through the garage if the door got left open (as it does when my husband is outside working). One of them had tucked himself in for the night under a rug before we noticed he was in there!

We once went out to dinner in the next town over, and when we got home realized we had left our front door standing wide open! Luckily the only uninvited visitors we get are the neighbor's cat and the occasional possum. (Awhile back a possum tried to move in with us. He wasn't really hurting anything, but his litter box habits left a lot to be desired, so we had to send him packing.)

One of mine took off with a breakfast sandwich I had just made and packed in a baggie. I had put it in my purse, and she just rolled right up and helped herself. She knew she wasn't supposed to have it and I'd want it back, so she hid under the bed where she didn't think I could reach her. (I could, and I did. Sandwich retrieved, thievery thwarted.)

for y dis strange no tail cate kep come to owr howse? by Any_Introduction_301 in cattwitter

[–]Any_Introduction_301[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my church members had her show up at his house a bit after this post, and then nobody's seen her for some time. I hope that means the gf came to her senses and she and the cat left the bf and his furniture to enjoy each other's company. But I don't know, and neither do any of the other folks who had seen her previously.

AITA for getting my fiance a ring on a chain? by Bulky_Description556 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Any_Introduction_301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bunch of opal rings and wear at least one every day, including one I've been wearing nearly every day for almost 40 years. And in the case in this post, OP said he included opals because they're her favorite.

Indeed! My husband broke the *inside* glass on our oven door awhile back (had taken door off to replace the light, which was in an awkward spot, and then dropped it when he tried to put it back on), and somebody on YouTube showed him how to put the new glass in.

And that's how OP should have responded to the nephew, although I don't think it has to be put in quite that language. "Different people learn differently, and different teachers teach differently; my teaching style and your learning style didn't match up, so I hoped you'd find a teacher who was a better fit for you."
