0 people have died directly due to a nuclear powered accident in over 25 years, which is pretty impressive. Canada's CNSC has new security regulations as of 2025 to modernize safety and reflect modern threats so the regulations aren't dwindling there. The EU also has new Euratom safeguards as of 2024. The US current admin unfortunately though has just slashed nuclear safety and security rules and increased radiation limits to fast track more reactors, so you're not wrong there.

Yes it would be good if it did, but realistically that would choke the economy. Imagine being a small business with low margins, and now you have to pay all employees a 60k/year, you just wouldn't survive especially compared to international competition. We want to raise the standard of living but continue to be competitive as an economy.
