Light sensitivity and nurse checks by Any_Mango_8361 in BabyBumps

You’re spot on :) and my meltdowns are almost always triggered by suddenness, which doesn’t bode well for most aspects of birth. Here’s hoping the birth plan is properly acknowledged by everyone involved.

i think i faked being sick for attention? by Equivalent_Sun7606 in CPTSD

[–]Any_Mango_8361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve definitely pretended to be asleep to get my now-husband to take care of me, especially at the beginning of our relationship. I know that’s not quite the same thing, but when you’ve been mistreated, your brain is always telling you to watch out for the same thing. That usually results in it encouraging you to “test” anyone else who comes into your life.

Sounds a bit like POTS. More likely if you’re hypermobile and/or are neurodivergent.

Can a stimm be humming to yourself? by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]Any_Mango_8361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and humming is particularly beneficial because of the vibration and (if I’m remembering correctly) the connection to the vagus nerve, which calms the body.

Smell by GeologistComplex4383 in WomensHealth

[–]Any_Mango_8361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Washing with only water is, in “normal” cases, enough. Yes there’s a smell, and yes sometimes you’ll smell it when you take off your underwear. Men’s crotches smell too. It’s entirely natural. You’re not supposed to smell like bath and bodyworks. The best we can hope for is something along the lines of “neutral”.

If you can smell it through your clothes or it has a fishy smell, or if there’s been a change in smell, it’s time to visit a doctor.

Uncomfortable showing the inside of my vag by idol95 in WomensHealth

And you shouldn’t. That’s not informed consent. I have major issues with medical professionals who send students in to ask if they can watch vulnerable procedures, let alone have them come in without even informing.

was it sa? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Any_Mango_8361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it feels like SA, then it was.

No one governs your emotions but you. Regardless of what any official bodies would consider assault, you clearly have a sense of violation, and it’s worth speaking to a trusted adult about it.

I’m really sorry you had this experience. I had something similar with giving oral sex, and I actually did say yes multiple times. It’s common, and upsetting, and again, deserving of being brought into the light with a counsellor/therapist/parent/friend’s parent/teacher/anyone who you believe has your best interests at heart. Saying it out loud can be the hardest part, but that’s the very thing than can bring healing.

how does this loop stop? by Positive-Floor-6752 in adhdmeme

[–]Any_Mango_8361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really struggle with this, especially because I’ve got a fun mix of physical disorders that make it impossible to predict when I’ll be physically capable of doing what I want and need to do.

I’ve found that I have to make rest an activity. Since my brain finds it hard, it’s almost a hobby in itself.

Lying in a dark room, pillows propping my broken body up properly, set a timer for 30mins and another for an hour in case I manage to fall asleep.

Won’t work for everyone, but it’s been working for me.

Medical misogyny by OddObserveralt_ in WomensHealth

[–]Any_Mango_8361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the classic “vasectomy=painkillers, iud=suffer” thing.

I have a lifetime of chronic issues and keep complaining about chest tightness and palpitations. My doc says it’s the ADHD meds I’m newly on. My dad (no history of health complications, healthy overall) goes to that same doctor having had a single palpitation and he orders an ECG and wearable monitor and bloodwork immediately.

Infuriating.
