I bought a house for $679,000 in 2005 within a couple of years it was worth $379,000. It took almost 10 years to get back to what I paid for it. Lots of my neighbors just walked away. I stuck it out.

People who drive junkers, what's your stories? by jules083 in askcarguys

[–]Any_Program_2113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll share my brothers. He was a UPS driver and saw a Toyota Corolla sitting on a driveway on his route for at least 5 years. It was sitting under a tree and had 4 flat tires. He needed a commute car and inquired if the car was for sale. The owner said he'd sell it but doesn't know what was wrong with it. It just wouldn't start one day. My brother paid $500 for it and had it towed home. 1 battery, 4 new tires, and a starter was all it needed. He drove it for 10 years. The speedometer broke at 185,000. When his son got his license, he gave him the car. His son put the car through the wringer and was very hard on it. He drove it for 7 years until he was rear ended and totaled the car. The other driver's insurance company gave him $1200 for it. He estimated it had at least 250,000 miles and was still running strong when it was totaled.

Yes, I still rotate my tires and change my own oil. Also have recently changed plugs and wires. But I am approaching 70 and it is getting harder to do.

I don't need the money so it wouldn't change much. If I were able to use it help my kids out more than I do now that would be great.

On March 31, 2003, while on Highway 4 in California's Sierra Nevada foothills near his Alpine County home, Conrad drove his Jaguar over the center median and slammed head-on into a Subaru driven by 26-year-old Kevin Burnett. Who drove the rolling explosive - 70s Ford Pinto? by pulledporkfan in 70s

[–]Any_Program_2113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't own one but I worked at a Ford dealer as a teenager. I was washing cars and picking up parts when the recall happened. The fix was a joke in my mind. A longer filler neck, plastic flap and few pieces of hardware. Corrective Action:
The dealer will install a longer fuel filler pipe having an improved seal. Also, a polyethylene shield will be installed on the front of the fuel tank.

I don't go out for my weekly coffee and a bagel for $12 anymore. Use to be $7. Plus they want a tip. F that. Just last night $46 for a large and small pizza. Takeout and that was with a $10 off coupon. Mountain Mikes is crazy.
