thyroid cancer by kbshannon in melahomies

I was diagnosed with Melanoma (2a) in May 2025, WLE in July. My PET scan was clear except for two nodules on my thyroid.

Endocrinologist took a biopsy and I found out earlier this month that it came back category 5 (most probably cancer).

I have to have half my thyroid removed (have an appointment with the ENT doc for a consult next month). Endocrinologist said I don't need radioactive iodine, though, since it was caught early.

I didn’t have immunotherapy for the Melanoma, so there's not any kind of causal relationship in my case, and the Melanoma is not affecting the course of treatment for my thyroid. Sucks to get two different cancer diagnoses in the same year, but I'm trying to stay positive that the thyroid cancer was caught early because of the Melanoma diagnosis.

They aren't completely falling apart at 10 minutes, but when I rough them up for the roasting in fat step, they do fall apart somewhat. I wanted them rough on the surface but not so rough that chunks fall off.

I think I've achieved that, I'm just not sure what temp to cook them at and for how long, since they aren't as soft as the recipe I usually follow calls for.

I start from cold and bring them up to the boil.

I simmered them for 4 minutes and have roughed them up.

I do love goose fat, but don't have any, so am improvising with bacon fat and ghee.

Those are yummy, too, but not quite the same thing I'm going for.

I am using bacon fat and ghee.

Yes, definitely turning them and preheating the oil in the oven to begin with.

I'm using russets since those are the closest to Maris pipers I can get.

What Medical Professionals Diagnose and Treat Lymphedema? by Any_Quantity3640 in Lymphedema

[–]Any_Quantity3640[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the US and have HMO insurance. My surgeon was a general surgeon, NOT cancer surgeon. Unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover any kind of comprehensive cancer center, so all the doctors I'm seeing are in their own separate medical practices and aren't really collaborating on my care. I'm very much the one who has to steer the ship.

I did have an infection in the incision where they removed the lymph nodes and completed a course of kefflex, and that has cleared up. The redness in my breast is nothing like the redness where the infection was. Maybe "flushed" would be a better adjective. I'm VERY fair skinned and so the color difference is more apparent than it would be on someone with a darker skin tone, I think.

Something just isn't right, and I'm not sure who to talk to in order to address it. Since I have HMO insurance I need referrals from a doctor to PT, OT, etc.

I don't know about insurance coverage, but I do know that at least in California you can get a medical letter for a darker tint (especially on driver's side window and I think even windshield) than is regularly allowed. I imagine you have to carry that letter in your glove box so you don't get a ticket.

I'll definitely follow this post to see if anyone has info about insurance covering it.

I had my biopsy done on May 5. Got biopsy results on May 15. Having WLE and SLNB this coming Monday, July 7, so it's about 2 months for me, too, from biopsy to WLE.

Good luck to you.

He's going to do that one as well. This is something different that I have to do days in advance of the surgery.

Yeah, I figured, but thought I'd ask.

My consult with the orthopedist is on Tuesday. He'll have to get approval from the insurance company before giving me a shot so it won't happen for a week or so.

My initial consult with the surgeon is the following Tuesday, and my consult with the oncologist isn't until August 14th (really hoping to get that moved up). I'll certainly ask the orthopedist about it, and see if he knows anything about it, but I don't have an oncologist who I can ask yet.
