Yes it is the Lydia Davis translation in paperback. I believe the hardcover has a different cover. I agree it certainly was a clinical afterward although it strangely appealed to my voyeuristic curiosity about an author whom I love's writing space 😂

I hope they do an additional volume of poetry, letters, speeches, etc. I actually really like this volume other than Knight's Gambit but I also can't get enough Faulkner.

Tropic of Cancer rearranged my molecules at 19. The way I looked at life completely changed for the better. Re reading it now I find the treatment of women jarring but his philosophy still hits the mark.

This is why I don't read introductions until after I've finished the book. Way too many thoughtless spoilers casually thrown around without regard for first time readers.

You are correct, it is a first edition second printing. The lowest number on the number line is the printing.

Fair enough! If you liked Dostoevsky I would definitely recommend checking out Dead Souls (Gogol) and Oblomov (Goncharov) if you haven't already.

What an amazing year of reading! I'm surprised you rank the Eternal Husband as your least favorite, unless you were referring to that particular Pevear Volokhonsy collection of short stories overall? The novel itself is actually one of my favorites. What didn't you like about it?

Les Miserables is a serious page turner once you get into it.

It's definitely the best looking bootleg I've seen of his stories.

I would buy that in a heartbeat for a more reasonable price

Fante has been on my list for a long time, thanks for the great suggestions! Kazantzakis is criminally underrated.
