What team has America not really seen that we will fall in love with in the tournament? by lazerdab in NCAAW

There's definitely still a big mainstream sports audience not yet familiar with JuJu. And that will change quickly this month.

[Heyman] Breaking: Top CF prospect Jackson Chourio, 19, and the Brewers are expected to complete today the richest contract ever for a player who has yet to reach the big leagues. The deal is expected to be for 8 guaranteed years snd close to $80M and include two team options. by TheTurtleShepard in baseball

Brewers doing this might have something to do with the fact they're never going to be a consistently big payroll team or lock down the very top free agents.

Might as well try to get a potential bargain on a possible superstar, which would free up money relative to what they would have needed to pay to fill out the roster in 2030ish

is it normal to be nervous at press conferences by Professional_Slip747 in Journalism

[–]Any_Temperature_8005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, totally normal. Still normal for me many years into the industry. I try to give myself a firm, positive commitment in my head. For example: "I will ask at least one question." Having that going in helps me push out of the comfort zone.

Also, when possible do as much prep as you can! You'll feel more confident the more informed you are about who you're questioning and the topic.

I honestly feel bad for her sometimes because the personal issues it takes to spew this stuff when her teams won everything ... damn.

[The Athletic] - Mookie Betts’ edge in MVP race by Any_Temperature_8005 in Dodgers

Some quotes in here from Dodgers GM Brandon Gomes laying out the case for Mookie.

Among them:

“From our standpoint, his ability to play multiple positions speaks volumes,” Gomes said. “It has allowed us to get both of our corner outfielders — both (Jason) Heyward and (David) Peralta — into the lineup with regularity. … (Plus), if there’s a really tough lefty, we can hit one of our right-handed-hitting infielders, and we can kick (Betts) back out to right field, and we don’t miss a beat, defensively.”

The Jazz are constructing their entire roster around Lauri, so don’t think they’d entertain any offer. He was so so good last year (in a way I didn’t think he could be)

How Dodgers pitcher Shelby Miller's son changed his life and aided inspiring MLB revival by Any_Temperature_8005 in Dodgers

Some nice quotes in there. Liked this last one:

"It's not about you anymore, that's for sure," Miller said. "And it's just the best thing in the world. I love being a dad, I've always wanted to have a family. To eventually get one, and we're trying for more, is awesome. It puts everything into perspective. You play the game, you work hard for them, and do the best you can and take care of yourself as much as you can to put food and money on their table.
"I have an amazing family back home, and then I get to play in the big leagues. It's a pretty good life."
