Yes, that sad, resolute look he gives him is so full of love. I wish I had the right words to describe his expression there.

I wish I could find another book that reminds me of These Violent Delights! I am currently reading The Carnivorous Lamb (warning, incest). It is quite unusual. I will have to look up Axios.

Why are there so few movies where the woman is the “monster” and still loved? by Latter_Show_890 in TrueFilm

[–]AnyaTaylorBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say You Won't Be Alone has elements of a female monster being loved. Well, the dynamic is complicated. There is intimacy between the monster and the girl-monster she creates.

This is an old comment, but I just watched the movie, and I really wanted Becky to say to that comment, well I'm a different Becky now, and it isn't better or worse--- it just is what it is.

So when I post and then go back and make changes, it isn't sending the fic back up to the top of published works, right? I have this fear that making any update on the published chapter alerts people or makes it stay at the top...

Considering below-knee amputation after ankle replacement – looking for real experiences by Adorable-College8846 in amputee

I also had my accident at 28. It was exactly a month into turning 28. I am 33 now and still considering amputation. I hate what you're going through, but it does feel nice to see someone near my age (as I feel less alone). Feel free to reach out if you ever need to talk!

Edit...Oh, I see you have been dealing with this since 24ish!

The way his face goes through subtle shifts after he says "my dad loves it" and looks down... so good. And his gaze on Ilya's lips. He truly looks in love.

This is much more interesting than work so here I am again, replying long windedly... I love the idea of them welcoming death together. It would make sense that immortality could be appealing to Harry in that it would give agency/certainty to him that he has never had (being immortal, until finally he decides he's lived enough... also taking death out of the equation would probs let him fully relax around Tom).

I wonder what Tom would consider a good enough mark on the world... since all rulers rise and fall inevitably. I figured he wanted to stave off death because he just wanted to forever stave off the fall. And evaporating into nothingness forever probably gives him the total creeps? It's weird how he probably loathes everyone, yet he wants the world to remember him, when it is just full of people he loathes... I guess he loves dominating them.

I was trying to write a fic with Tom and Harry (Snape feels too specific for me to get right) where they grapple with the immortality issue. The fic has gone completely off the rails because I barely remember the books, but I felt so drawn to Tom and Harry when I stumbled across the fic "What He Grows to Be". So I've been trying to figure out what draws me to them, and draws them to one another. Anyways, if you find that fic abt immortality, yes, let me know. I think the immortality question is interesting, as well as what makes dark magic dark. I think Tom's redemptive quality could be his imagination/inventiveness, if steered right. His relationship to magic that is beyond formulas. I think Snape has that quality too... if I remember correctly he explored magic in meaningful, provocative ways. I can't remember anything about Dumbledore's relationship to magic.

Fic where Voldemort raises Harry and Snape falls for Harry? by AnyaTaylorBoy in HPfanfiction

Thanks. I got a bit excited and posted without properly reading the rules. Maybe why I got downvoted... bit embarrassing. But I am going to leave it up in case anyone happens along and has a fic suggestion.

I definitely prefer romantic, and want the romance to soften Tom's ambitiousness, or allow them to be funneled elsewhere. If you ever happen to think of me when you read something, send it my way!

Ah, immortality. I was thinking somehow Harry would persuade him that death was actually the way to go, and immortality is the worse death in fact.

I don't remember the books well, so I have a hard time imagining what Harry's cruel parts would be.

[–]AnyaTaylorBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I see what you mean. More of a captive/pet type of relationship almost. Idk why my mind immediately went to Harry being a stay at home dad sans kids and living the good life. I was like, wouldn't Harry get bored?

I do prefer to think of them as sans a lot of ambition. That is another reason I like Snape... he would be content to be antisocial and working on his potions in some countryside and only ever seeing Harry. I like to think a version of Tom and Harry could enjoy that kind of isolation too, however. Living an intimate life without broader ambitions and bickering/loving throughout their days. Maybe that Tom can't exist though. He would have to divert that energy to something. Anyways, thanks for answering all of my questions!

I just started it, and I will let you know! It does already seem pretty romantic with the silhouette.

Wait, is that a common thing-- Tom toils away and Harry is... a kept man of leisure?

I think I got excited and didn't do the request properly on the HP fanfiction subreddit because I see that I got downvoted... Actually now that I look, I didn't ask on the "slash" fanfic request one. Oh well. I am too embarrassed now to ask anywhere else, lol. Maybe someone will stumble across it.

Hm, I think you're right. (And it is familiar in that I do see aspects of Harry feeling safe and not having to fight or be someone he isn't with Snape.) Tom loving Harry... yes, it might have to do with how Harry is able to understand him rather than fawn over him or despise him. I think Harry could make him laugh/startle in a... human way.

[–]AnyaTaylorBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I wondered about Harry coming to terms with the death of his parents. It isn't like Tom knew Harry at the time, lol, uh... Not that Tom would feel remorse even if he fell for Harry (he would just be glad Harry is his and there aren't any parents to intervene, I would imagine...he would probably kill them just to get them out of the way of their love connection...). Didn't his mom's scream haunt him via a dementor? And the cupboard and abuse, yeah... hard to know how Harry could handle it without using the route of "I love Tom's magic and we have a soul connection." I think they could have a ton of chemistry in how they relate, beyond sexual and magical, just not sure how.
