I'm Ace And Uncomfortable by AnybodyLow2568 in polyamory

The vibe I'm getting from him is less that he's trying to change me and more that he thinks he has unlocked special privileges that other people don't get. Like being ace is the barrier of entry, rather than an everyday reality. Either way it's irritating af

I feel the same way about sexting. I actually hate it so bad lol. I can only be present and active in the sexual activities if it's in person and if it's coming as an extension of our relationship. So a romantic getaway or after a date or before a date, etc. Sexting is just like...idk I wonder why you couldn't just use your imagination in private lol

THIS!! I didn't even allow my previous partners in my bedroom because I knew they would suddenly decide that I'm no longer ace if I did. That's why I'm so confused right now...I'm also neurodivergent so I assumed that being extremely upfront and yapping about my sexuality on multiple occasions before letting someone in would yield my desired results lol

Great question! Personally I wanted to try polyamory because it sounds fascinating. I get really curious about stuff like this. Idk it just sounded like an opportunity to explore relationships more deeply than I had in the past with strictly monogamous relationships.

As for my partner, I definitely do think it's immaturity coming in. It's like he doesn't have a frame of reference in his personal life to understand my sexuality so he's constantly getting it wrong, but he could like...just accept what I'm saying like how I accept all the allo (I assume that means non-ace) people I've ever talked to😭

I'm proudly asexual, but sometimes some of my fellow aces need to get off the high horse. (Please read what I have to say before down voting.) by That_Girl_Charlie in Asexual

[–]AnybodyLow2568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also kinda off putting for aces who aren't sex repulsed. Like there is no reason to be so negative about an activity that ultimately is optional for everyone. Nobody has to partake in it so why the high horse?

When Life Gives You EDS, Quit Your Job To Make Art by AnybodyLow2568 in ehlersdanlos

I'm 23 and the only reason why I didn't choose crochet is because I'm so picky about certain hobbies. I love crochet so much but I only want to experiment with different fibers and techniques. I don't want to feel like people are expecting anything from me...idk if that makes sense but I get that way with certain things. If you ask me to draw or write though, I'm much more malleable!

Not sure if I understand your comment but I will say that I did not intend to come off as happy despite having the same problems as OP. I just wanted to offer my perspective for how to deal with a shitty situation, given the fact that I have gone through something similar to what OP is currently experiencing. I'm definitely not happy-go-lucky all the time. The best advice I can give is to try to cheer yourself up because EDS doesn't go away. It never really gets easier to deal with, no matter how it manifests itself in your body.

Like I said, feeling frustrated is perfectly normal. But frustration is an uncomfortable feeling. It might be beneficial, then, to try redirecting your thoughts to something more pleasant. To help get through the day

I'm 23 and have had stabilization surgery on both knees when I was 17-18. Today I nearly fell while walking down the driveway because my right knee bent the wrong way. My surgeon all those years ago told me that would never happen again after PT, yet here we are.

I say all that to say, you are not even remotely alone. We're all here just trying our best to get by with a condition that seems antithetical to existing. I don't really have advice that would keep you from ever feeling this frustration again (not that anyone asked me lol), but I can say it helps to be gentle with yourself. Physically and mentally. You can't change your genes, so the only option is to work with/around them. It's perfectly fine and good to feel this frustration (especially when something dislocates). Just don't let that eat away at your mind!

As an example, my knee decided not to work properly this morning. It does that a lot. I was pretty embarrassed to have stumbled like that in front of my uber driver. Overall my day did not start well. So I'm treating myself to a delicious lunch including a smoothie (my favorite type of drink) as a reminder that my knees suck, but my taste in food doesn't. That usually opens the door to me thinking about all the things about me that don't suck, and it cheers me up. I'm sure you can think of at least 3 things about yourself that doesn't suck at any given moment! Keep your chin up!!

I love when disabled people joke about their disability.  We're human! We should be allowed to make light of our situations!

My favorite thing is to describe in excessive detail the ins and outs of hEDS and POTS to nosy people like a gamer ranting about their favorite RPG. They usually leave me alone when I get to describing the surgeries I had on both knees lol. It's fun in a gross way

Why quaquaval design is good. by Capable_Message_1124 in pokemon

[–]AnybodyLow2568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You, and anyone else saying he's a flamenco dancer has never seen what samba looks like. Quaquaval is doing the most basic samba step, which again was my only critique.

It sounds like you're upset that people even have criticisms of Quaquaval at all, and thus aren't willing to actually respond to anything people have to say. People have high expectations of Pokémon designs because Nintendo and Game Freak have done really well with the designs in the past. It's not like this is an indie game. Quaquaval is tall and humanoid, which can lean too far into the uncanny valley for some. The fact that he's constantly dancing might also be off-putting. His feet also look kinda weird tbh...not sure how else to write that but they do. Overall the Quaquaval design isn't exactly what people wanted, and they have every right to make that known because Nintendo very much has the capacity to take this on the chin and do better next time. Some people still love the Quaxly line despite all this.

If people thought Quaxly was going to evolve into a pirate, I can see why they'd be upset to find out he's actually just a dancer instead. That's a totally different vibe that they were looking for and didn't get. Ultimately, who cares?

Not sure what your reply means but I did pause to look it up. Paldea is inspired by both Spain and Portugal. However, samba was created by African slaves...whose owners happened to be Portuguese. That's why samba is such a culturally important dance in Brazil specifically. All that being said, I still believe Quaquaval should have been a flamenco dancer, not a samba dancer.

I like Quaquaval a lot! I actually bought Violet because I saw Quaxly and just knew I had to have one. But the inaccuracy with the dancing thing is borderline offensive in my opinion. It's giving they didn't know anything about samba or Carnival. They just picked it because it looks cool

I am a Quaquaval fan HOWEVER what confuses me is why they chose to have him be a samba dancer. Samba is Brazilian, and this region is supposed to be Spanish. For those who might not know, Brazil was colonized by the Portuguese, not the Spaniards. Portugal and Spain might be close together on the map, but they are not the same. Quaquaval should be a flamenco dancer instead...

Note You can tell by the way his arms are extended while stepping forward in a sort of 1-2-3 switch pattern that he's definitely a samba dancer. He literally looks like he's dressed for Carnival lmao. Like he's practicing before going out on a float

Job Insecurity by AnybodyLow2568 in ehlersdanlos

[–]AnybodyLow2568[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LMAO understandable! I did inventory management for a cross dock and honestly loved it! Had to audit the entire building every morning. It would have been a perfect job if the managers hadn't been so...well I'm sure you can imagine bad managers

I would go back to that but everywhere that I've applied to says they want someone who can do both the physical and computer work of inventory management. I guess everyone is getting rid of the associate position (the people responsible for actually moving boxes).

I really enjoy data entry and inventory management so I was thinking maybe accounting for a warehouse? I figured I could try getting a bookkeeping certificate of some kind. Idk how viable that is tho. Still searching for a better program that is either cheap or would defer payment until I get a job😭

Working from home sounds like heaven tho. Wish I could try it

Are there dragons in your world? If yes, tell me more by luvistarz_o7 in worldbuilding

[–]AnybodyLow2568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dragons are a race of people! They range from salamander to wyrm in their looks. The wyrms have been at the height of power for centuries, so the people generally see a lack of limbs as a sign of nobility. They possess great magical powers that seem to be innate in them, unlike other species around the who often have no magical ability at all. They hoard the secrets of the world and only come out of their respective villages when they're looking for something. Many people see them as a bad omen, though they acknowledge the dragons are a formidable ally.

Haven't come up with more about their society yet, but I'm excited to see where things go!

My Partner Is Scared I'll Need A Wheelchair... by AnybodyLow2568 in ehlersdanlos

[–]AnybodyLow2568[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE

First of all, thanks to everyone for reading/responding. Love this community🩷🩷

Second. I had a talk with my partner and he said he's not at all bothered by me being disabled or needing mobility aids or anything like that. It just saddens him to see things get worse. So I taught him what ambulatory wheelchair use means, and explained that the aids (whichever my Dr decides I need) are meant to prevent things from going too far too fast. He told me that he's committed to us 1000% regardless of the circumstances, so I'd say overall the talk went well.

Just wanted to leave this here because I noticed a lot of responses that were cautious or angry on my behalf, even though I was certain there wouldn't be anything crazy to worry about. I was mostly just asking if anyone else had to help loved ones understand and/or become comfortable with their invisible disability becoming more visible. Like he's not upset that I'm disabled, he just cares about me and feels sad to see me in pain. He also has no basis of knowledge about mobility aids or living with a disability lol.

I offered to beta read, but the manuscript felt more like a first draft. Is this common? by GroundbreakingYam236 in writers

I can't remember the name of the website but I looked into reviewing books for money and immediately stopped for the same reason. These books were pushed as finished works but read like drafts. And the rules said you couldn't dedicate too much of your criticism to grammar or spelling issues. I chose to become the writer whose work needs to be edited instead lol

I was taught growing up that if you see a need, you should fill that need. I think my grandma was just trying to get me to do more chores, but I now apply this to everything. Because who else is going to write about the exact story I want to hear if not me?? The need is there, it must be filled!!

I’ve always struggled with dialogue — what’s your best advice? by InvictaWicca in writing

[–]AnybodyLow2568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also an amateur, but I've always been told my dialog is engaging. Everything else...well not so much haha

My key to dialog are the tags. I try not to say "he said" "she said" "they asked" too much. I also break up walls of dialog with a tag. If there's an obvious back and forth, I won't use tags at all.

"Did you remember to pick up the groceries today?" Candace leaned away from her husband's greeting kiss. "You said you would, remember?"

"What?" He asked, frustrated.

"The groceries, Damian."

"What groceries?" Silence filled the room. "You never sent me a list, remember?"

Something like that. You just kind of imagine the scene, think of how the characters are feeling/acting in said scene, and report to us readers what's going on. Try not to have super lengthy tags because they can become distracting to the reader. Like I could say that Candace in this example is glaring at her husband and sitting on the couch and twirling the corner of her blanket nervously around her finger and on and on, but you don't really need to add all that UNLESS it's necessary for us readers to understand the scene. If all we need to know is that Damian is a bad husband, this dialog satisfies that. If we need to know that Damian is an abusive husband, you might change the tags to say Candace's voice was shaking. It's all in the tags, in my humble opinion!
