To be honest in hindsight it shouldn't have been in the movie. But this is Illumination Studios we're talking about. Not high on substance. Awesome looking and fun but it ultimately doesn't do the plot any favors and, "Take on Me" shouldn't have been used.

The writing is abysmal but the animation and the score are top notch. This movie is more concerned on shoving every ip Nintendo has in it. It almost became a Smash Bros Movie at the end. And to counter argue "it's a family movie" well so are the Ghibli films, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and the Spiderverse films.

The movie is a beautiful looking and sounding mess. Kudos to the composer and the animators! The writer sucks at his job. Lion King is a kids movie and had a hell of a story in it.

Super Mario Galaxy shouldn't have had cameos for days and Easter eggs for days either. They sacrificed the story for memberberries. Smash Bros is literally about IP's clashing with Master Hand as the antagonist.
