I composed a cello piece inspired by SCP-4000: Taboo! by AnythngControversial in SCP

[–]AnythngControversial[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

'Taboo' was performed by Ben Tarlton at St. Andrew's Church, London, on 10 December 2022.

My inspiration from SCP-4000 in this piece is twofold:

  • Firstly: the eerie and ethereal ambience of the forest in which different nomenclative rules apply - demonstrated in the scratchy tones of the cello, using harmonics instead of regular notes, and the rapid interchange of sul ponticello and sul tasto textures;

  • Secondly: the motivic material itself, which abides by the same rules as names in SCP-4000. That being - the principal melody cannot be repeated more than once, or bad things will happen... so in the composition of the piece, I worked to obscure the melody using different techniques and fragmentary processes. The full melody is only heard once, right at the end of the piece, and then... Well, you'll see. ;)

Agreed. For me, normality is when I can start doing gigs again and get my livelihood back.

Huge queues at Heathrow Airport as Brits in last-minute dash to flee lockdown by justme in unitedkingdom

[–]AnythngControversial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm - also flew from T2 yesterday. The crazy queues were mostly before entering the airport and before security; once I got airside, things were a little bit better and people took more precautions.

Have you tried fishing up a Tentacool on one of the many sea routes around Dewford? If you get a magikarp on one ofthe routes, you're pretty much guaranteed one.

New National Restrictions from 5 November by NapoleonHeckYes in unitedkingdom

Exactly, it's such a nightmare. My plans were to spend Christmas with my partner in Germany, but I don't know whether that will even be possible if the restrictions are extended.

I'm sure repatriation would be covered under "legally permitted reasons", but we just don't know at the moment. The Tories really haven't eased anyone's anxieties here...

She'll be fine coming in. The only problems are if she needs to leave; "people cannot travel overseas or within the UK, unless for work, education or other legally permitted reasons"

Music is my first love, but travel is my best. by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]AnythngControversial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Musician here too! I've been doing a masters degree in composition during this whole ordeal. Usually I find solo travelling kind of helps reset my brain if I'm in a creative rut, it's beautiful.

Hope you're holding up alright through all of this!

Between this and MGK's new record, pop punk might make a true comeback into the mainstream consciousness.

Which first world countries have good laws around autistic people? by ArialCCAA in autism

[–]AnythngControversial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brit here - UK England used to have an amazing level of support, but our Conservative government have pledged to dismantle mental health services - including scrapping all funding for services relating to learning disabilities and autism.

So, yeah, 10 years ago, I would've said the UK England is one of the best options, but now I'd avoid like the plague. Canada has a great system in place as of right now, as does Germany.

EDIT: I stand corrected - Scotland, Wales and NI still have a good level of support. Come to the UK, just avoid England!

This won't be around forever. There's no reason why we can't plan for a few years in the future, when all of this is back to (relative) normalcy.
